If you don't have a steering wheel, or DiRT Rally series is too complex for you but you still want to play a rally game, try this one. I was prepared for disappointment after reading some of the negative reviews before playing but it was much better than I thought it would be. I've never played before any games from V-Rally series so I can't tell how it compares to previous entries in the series. The game has very arcade-like steering, nice sharp graphics, decent map and car variety and enough content for about 20 hours if you are only playing career mode.
During my playthrough it crashed to desktop once while mid-race, other than that I didn't encounter any major bugs or glitches. Multiplayer is non-existent (servers have been shut down years ago) so you better look elsewhere if that's what you're interested in. I also recommend waiting for a sale, I got my copy at -85% discount and the game seems to be going on sale every few months.

Fifteen hours into the game, here's my current opinion:
The game itself has arcadey controls with a touch of simulation. It's not as realistic as DiRT Rally, but it feels a bit like DiRT 4 or DiRT 3, only easier. However, since this is V-Rally, you can't really compare it to other series because it has its own characteristics.
Pros:
-Easy to pick up with not-too-intense gameplay
-Easy to master vehicle handling
-Beautiful scenery (Japan holds a special place for me)
-Decent graphics for this game
-Eargasmic sound
-Follow cam has an action cam feel to it
-You can feel the sense of speed in this game
-Vehicle upgrade system
Cons:
-Online achievements
-Lack of a progression tracker (either there isn't one or I haven't found it yet)
-Liveries system
If I compare it to Gravel, so far I feel like this game is a little bit similar.
Get the game on sale.

V-Rally 4 is better than what i thought it would be because of the reivews score arent that high but its the only Rally game thats still availble that feels like DiRT1/2/3 if you looking for a game like that:
Pros:
+ good and memorable car list: 51 (some cars that you dont see offten in racing games)
+ 5 game modes all are fun: Rally, Rally Rush, Hillclimb, Exrteme Khana and Rallycross
+ good arcade driving physics (a little bit more on the slippy side it also depends on which car you use some are more grippy on the gravel and asphalt than others)
+ graphics are good to look at
+ for a modern racing game it have the best arcade damage model feels simular on DiRT 3 level
+ in free race you have an random track creator simular to DiRT 4, i liked it here more sure some places repeat but its better made in this game only for rally mode
+ track designs and locations are great choice (22 environments)
+ car upgrade system is neat (you have to play the cars for a few races to get better handling, speed and more)
+ game runs really smooth
Cons:
- career mode is fun with its random event system but it also can be a little confusing how to get the world and championships after a while
- some unbalanced bots in rally stages like USA Park is way to easy (also the mountain hillclimb races with a few upgrades), rally Malaysia and Exrteme Khana Kapstadt are a little bit hard the rest is totally fine
- a little short shadow draw distance in places with many trees
How it looks like sadly the game is pretty much unkown and thats a shame because its a soild arcade racing game as a whole.

It's fun, really! I'm a sucker for rally and this scratches a brand new itch in my brain never before discovered. The handling, while so slippery you would've thought they rebooted the sega rally games and tried to make them "simcade", is really fun to learn and master. The campaign of actually buying cars and upgrading them over time as you progress isn't something I see in games like this, so it's totally welcome. All stages I've driven thus far are pretty good, though the rallycross stages can get a little repetitive over the 6 lap races in particular.
also it has the citroen xsara and I LOVE THE CITROEN XSARA go play the game it's good I swear
scoutcat34 update if i lose a rally stage the game blasts my ears with loud as all getout sound effects and freezes my computer so i have to ultra lock in as not to lose hearing by 25

This is what I looking for. An "easy" to play rally games, at least compare to Dirt which is I love that game too. Its remind me on PS1 days when I love V-Rally because more easier than CMR, which is I love that too.
Other is random map generator form V-Rally 2 is back! I really love this feature. Get this game on 90%. Really worth for it!

Fun Game, I instantly got addicted to the full track at Sequoia National Park. I love to drive the Lancia Fulva in first person view and manually shift through the gears. It really helps when you first start racing to turn down the steering so you are not over steering all the time, also helps to turn off the shadows so you can see those corners at high speed. I got this on sale for 2.99 and it was money well spent.

Even without the online components the game is pretty fun, since it was (seemingly) never reliant on such things. The handling is a little slidey but it can be satisfying to pull off a corner correctly once you're used to it, although overall it feels like the road is always covered in a thin layer of ice. Graphics are beautiful and it's optimised so well, I rarely ever dip below 100 fps on the highest settings, and I'm only running a 2060S! The career is pretty decent too, the overall goal is to gain trophies from huge championships that randomly appear once you've won enough, so it's a nice game to kick back and pop a few stages every now and then.
