Little indie homage to the survival games that doesn’t take long to beat.
You don’t have to take a second guess on which franchise this game is trying to imitate. The setting and gameplay are almost same, so you'll feel right at home. The story doesn't give you much at the beginning. You play as Nilgo, a ranger stationed on an island. The game does not spend time with a slow introduction because you're thrown into the action right after leaving your house.
Controls are simple and don’t include any complicated moves. Aside from moving the hero, your primary actions will be to shoot, interact, and pick up items. You also have a kick, but it is ineffective because you have a knife with a far longer range. It can save you bullets and smash containers that frequently conceal ammo.
Although you find a lot of ammo packs, they only give a couple of bullets. That is why it is important to save them for more difficult enemies and bosses, and to defeat most enemies with a knife. You can't attack while walking - there is no run button - so you must pause for a second and then attack. Regardless of your weapon, your attacks can strike every target in a straight path. This includes a knife and a pistol.
Even if you simply walk, it's possible to avoid most slow enemies. Their attacks appear fair since they must touch you and cannot harm you from across the screen. It is also easy to cheat in some situations due to enemy movement and objects in the world. Enemies move straight at you and are unable to move around obstacles. For example, the first boss can become stuck in a chair. This allows you to shoot it from a safe distance.
Progress through the game is linear. You’ll sometimes find yourself with a few doors that lead to resources or key items, but the game doesn’t offer much exploration. Key items glow so you can spot them right away, and they’re used automatically when you interact with the right object.
Fortunately, there is no item management because there is plenty space for everything. This means you can collect all of the ammo and healing items you locate without leaving them behind. Most enemies do not respawn, however new ones may arise in previously cleared rooms when you collect a crucial item.
The game’s biggest challenge are very rare healing items and saving spots. If you forget to heal during a boss fight and die, you’ll have to repeat 10-20 minutes long sections. The game isn’t very long and can be finished in around 2-3 hours.
All achievements are possible with a single playthrough, unless you fail to grab weapons. When you beat the game once, you can go for another run with all ammo and weapons from the previous run.
