Trove
Your dogs have been dognapped by a beaked lunatic named Glorkon who stuffed them into his eye holes and is using their life essence to destroy the universe. You're partnered with Trover, a little purple eye-hole monster who isn’t a huge fan of working or being put in the position of having to save the universe. He’s also not that big a fan of you quite frankly, and neither am I. (Jk, you’re great) Only you and Trover can save everything in this bizarre comedy adventure, created by Justin Roiland! A comedy adventure filled with combat, platforming, puzzles, and morally questionable choices. See how the best intentions can go horribly awry. You control Trover's movements, but not his mouth. He’s got a lot to say about what’s going on in the game. Travel the cosmos to experience a variety of weird alien planets and bizarre characters with big personalities. Upgrade Trover AND YOURSELF with new abilities to (hopefully) defeat Glorkon while evading awkward situations. You'll be immersed in weirdness, no matter which display you use — play on TV, monitor or VR headset displays.

Fill the following checkboxes to check your compatibility with the Trover Saves the Universe:
□ 1. Descriptive jokes and freaking-freakity, freaky freak jokes are funny.
□ 2. Traditional VR controls, move-to-marker movement mechanic is fine or at least tolerable to me.
□ 3. People stuttering in conversation is perfectly okay and not annoying at all.
□ 4. I enjoyed Justin Roiland's other works and his style of humor.
□ 5. I like linear games that prioritizes in dialogues than actual action.
□ 6. Justin Roiland did nothing wrong, he was cleared of all charges, and people send joke DMs all the time.
If you found the 3 of first 5 sentences relatable, hooray! you might enjoy this game after all! to you, I recommend this game. If you didn't, skip and keep browsing the store page.
And if you agreed with the last, 6th sentence, you are a sicko. go and contemplate about your life.

Played without a VR headset.
In my opinion, unfortunately, there's not much replayability, as the gameplay is rather bland. Dialogues can be tiresome at times, but still enjoyable if you're into the insults and stuttering reminiscent of Rick and Morty – typical Justin Roiland style. Achievements are relatively easy to unlock; throwing 100 baskets in your spaceship can be a bit annoying but is accomplished fairly quickly. The DLC is free and also gets done pretty fast.
It's best to buy it on sale; as of August 22, 2023, you can get "High on Life", Trover etc. in a bundle for around 30€ on Humble Bundle.
All in all, it's a very funny game.

Description:
Trover Saves the Universe is a 3D platformer with combat mechanics and puzzle solving, set in space, with fictional planets and alien species. You control a chair person that can’t leave its chair and warps from point to point and controls another alien species through a controller, a bit like a game within the game. The puppet alien species will jump from platform to platform and fight enemies.
It was created by the same person responsible for Rick and Morty, and you see some of the same jokes, similar characters but in the end it still feels different, with less existential or philosophical themes and more swearing and genitalia references. Most of the content is fun and original but after a while you begin to notice some repetition and overused jokes.
The universe where the story takes place is populated with very weird and disturbing characters that vary from humanoid looking to weirder aliens with very strange looks and fetishes that are sometimes hilarious and disturbing at the same time. Like the characters, some of the worlds are also very strange looking and for that reason also work well together with the characters that live on those planets.
Your goal is saving the universe from a villain, and to do that you’ll have missions to complete on several different planets where you’ll meet these characters I mentioned, collect upgrades and power babies to increase your life total, until you’re ready to face the final boss. The game also has a free DLC, where you need to explore the agency you work for and find all the hidden collectibles there.
The 3D graphics and character models look different from the Rick and Morty 2D animation but you can see some resemblances between the characters especially in how their faces are drawn, and that includes the iconic sloppy eye design. Since the game already has a few years, I could crank up the video setting and play it in 4K and maximum settings and it looks really good with colorful and vibrant worlds and the goofy 3D character models. I don’t have a VR setup but I bet it also looks great in VR.
The voice acting also uses some of the same actors responsible for the voices of Rick and Morty, but it seems like they swear a lot more in the game. But, overall, if you’re a fan of the series and its type of comedy the game will feel familiar and you’ll enjoy it too.
In terms of gameplay, most of the game is platforming and combat, but there are some parts of the game where you’ll have to solve some simple puzzles that require using the abilities you have gained. Throughout the game there wasn’t any part where I got stuck and didn’t know what to do, so expect a straightforward and enjoyable experience that can be complete in some hours, but getting all the collectibles in the main game and the DLC takes some extra time as some of the collectibles are very well hidden.
Achievements:
How many: 27 Achievements.
How much time: Around 8 hours. You’ll need to complete the full adventure and replay some levels to get all the achievements.
Game difficulty: Easy, all the platforming, combat and puzzles are easy.
Achievements’ Difficulty: Easy, there are no missable achievements, but there are lots of collectibles to get and one very annoying achievement that requires you to get 100 basket shots, which takes some time but can be done while you listen to the characters talking. The rest are far simpler and can be completed by replaying levels with the level select feature. The collectibles on the DLC can be very tricky to find and I need a guide for a few of them
Overall opinion:
Trover Saves the Universe is a funny 3D platformer game set in a colorful universe filled with weird and sometimes disturbing characters, voiced by some of the same actors of the Rick and Morty series and has the same type of humor. If you’re a fan of the series you’ll enjoy the game too.

First things first:
This game offers a "minor-friendly"-version of gameplay...meaning "censored". After playing it in normal mode, i don't have any idea, if it's a hoax only, or if really some words have been replaced...a word of warning, just like "High on life", this is an adult game.
The alien-camouflage of course makes it appear a bit more harmless - in a way - but at the end of the day, this funny looking game, is for mature audience only.
I received this game in a bundle, so it wasn't that expensive (still cheaper than on Steam offer right now) and referring to that, it's totally been worth it.
Graphics are o.k., since they're designed to look ridiculous and not Hi-Res-textures, where you can see the pores on the NPC's skin, gameplay is something, you get used to, voice-acting is mostly acurate and fun (foolish adult fun...) and like both "Sqanch Games"-products, i've played so far, you get the "Rick and Morty"-flair.
The community has guides, in case you get stuck, or you're a completionist, who doesn't get, why some achievements haven't unlocked yet. :P
So what are the downsides?
At the end of the first real mission, there seems to be a bug with proceeding after finishing (like i pushed the red button multiple times and the game didn't move on...quitting to main-menu and continuing fixed that, but still...annoying).
The chase for collectables can be quite tricky and annoying as well, though it's doable.
The (though i have to admit, just like the devs did FREE) DLC is quite short...as soon, as you got into it, it's already done.
All in all, it's a nice game, worth 10 bucks and fun - though there's quite a redundancy in content.
You rater don't play the game for its' content, but more for its' vibes and the laughs and giggles, it can offer to you.
NOTE:
Laughs and giggles have the minimum requirement of "sense of humor" installed on the player's brain, else it won't work properly. If you lack this requirement, check your doctor for a possible fix.

In conclusion, Trover Saves the Universe is a must-play for anyone who appreciates humor, quirky characters, and a hero with a purple eyeball for a sidekick. It's a wild ride through the cosmos that had me laughing so hard, I almost forgot about the whole saving-the-universe thing.

I thought it would not be so much fun in VR because it is not a 1st person game, but it was actually pretty cool and also it is a nice platformer and if you like the Rick&Morty kind of humour then you will feel right at home. Not a masterpiece but for sure something to play.

If you like Rick & Morty humour, you'll likely enjoy this.
It's not super long, it's funny and absurd.
Some people criticise the rambling but honestly, it's just down to personal taste.
Played on my couch with a controller and no VR. Works great in case you're worried.
