Actually pretty fun and nails the vibe (unlike NMH3). Jim Sterling is and always was a retard disregard all his reviews like I've been doing and realizing most of the games he's trashed are actually great.

This and Killer Is Dead are probably the most stale/average games Grasshopper Manufacture have put out, trying to play this on higher difficulties is a complete trainwreck that requires you to grind forever just to make sure your attack and health stats are on par with the kind of damage you'll be taking for all the times you fail to dodge. Oh and some of the skills are either very overpowered or completely underpowered.
However you are required to play this before No More Heroes 3 for sure though, the story is pretty great, especially the Travis Strikes Back segments. Anyone saying this is better than No More Heroes 3 clearly didn't play the same games, this feels like a stepping stone to what they did with 3 and it really shows how much of an improvement 3 was based on the things they introduce in this game.

I was wary of TSA because besides not usually being a huge lover of top down style games and their usually annoying difficulty that's doubled up with a lives system, it was also a game that kind of had a variety of mechanics as you went through but I'm happy to say it's a game that although still difficult if you let it be, gives you all the mechanics needed to utterly santa destroy enemies and do it in some fun ways at that, it made me wish I had someone to play the co-op with even, is it the best game ever? No I won't say that but it's definitely fun enough for a buy and has lore as to what in the flying duck happened in NMH3 which anyone who plays will be entirely confused of otherwise dood.
Okay onto the deep deets for ya'all Otaku assassin loving guys and gals, so for starters you have two playable characters (four once you've totally completed it all) of which you can play co-op with offline, the way the game plays is very basic but a fun basic, x is attack but holding it will have Travis or badman swinging constantly for low damage and a high weapon energy cost, Y is your heavy attack, it's slow and leaves you very vulnerable but there are ways to mitigate that risk and the second strike deals double the already high damage, you have A for jump and B for dodge, nice and basic, recharge is click in the left stick then move the right one up or down or better yet shake your controller up and down :p then you have R1, once a meter has charged you can land a special attack, press it twice to attack an enemy close by and then shake your controller to deal the final special attack, this has three, very powerful variations and finally you have the death glove chips, they give you a variety of very handy powers that will turn the tide of battles quite nicely, in fact I wish they kept a bunch of these for NMH3 but that's as much as I'll say dood.
Enemies have a few varieties, probably all references or pun names but I only got the first enemies reference/pun name XD heck the game is filled with references, especially to SUDA51's other games, some enemies are tough, others are really tough and then you have about three who are extremely tough, like wow they are a hassle, nothing you'd die over but even so some fights will feel like a real challenge over others even at nearly max level, which is what you want really, where's the fun if there's no challenge after all dood?
I guess I should mention the story premise actually, basically Bad girls dad Badman, (Recap time! if ya haven't played NMH1 plug those eyeholes real tight or better yet play that first! but yeah she's a boss from the first game who is super memorable and also super dead, recap over!) wants revenge over Travis for killing her but Badman was given a deathball for some reason? It never states why yet is convenient to the plot so it's totally fine! As Badman tries to take down Trav only for the deathdrive MK2 to pull them in and have them go to the game world! get all of them? And a single wish will be granted, bet you'll never guess what it is!...wait seriously you can't? Uhhh I won't spoil then dood!
Each stage has it's own special mechanics to it, making the game quite a varied one in it's own right, this can be offputting but bar literally a single mechanic in the game which just...franky it sucks but if ya have the lives you should be fine, otherwise the mechanics are pretty fun throughout and never so brutal that you feel it takes away from the game, on top combat is always the priority but I mean It's Travis Touchdown, that's his thing dood.
There are a variety of totally rad and moe shirts to choose from, no jackets sadly, not much in the collectable department either but not every game has to be like that, bosses are all great with unique attack patterns, some quite frightening in fact, second boss? Really didn't wanna know what happened if I failed a certain thing lol still it's always a good time fight at the end each time dood.
Final words, is this game a masterpiece? Yes and no? It's definitely not the most amazing game in terms of play style but what it does have is heart, SUDA51 games have never felt like they were about pandering to everyone, they always felt like games made for the sake of being a game with stories and worlds that were strange, freaky, funny and odd, TSA does that again, filled with references from movies, other SUDA51 games and even various indie titles at times, you end up having fun with both the game itself but what story there is and the characters just draw you in if you let them, can I suggest this game to everyone? No it's very niche but it's a really good niche that you'll either love or hate, thank you for reading and hope you enjoy if you play dood!
