Barebones shooter with a surprisingly fun mechanic.
To begin with, the game appears to be a mobile device port. Although the game's mouse-only controls make sense, the lack of options and restricted screen ratio aren't practical. You only have the option of turning sound on or off.
The screen is locked to a mobile’s portrait mode. That is, the game takes place in the center, while both sides of the screens are empty. It's just black with no other options like color change or even a custom background.
The only way you can play or select options is with a mouse. That’s fine, but it makes the pause button meaningless. The problem is that it's in the upper right corner, and because the ship is connected to your mouse pointer, you'll have to crash into enemies to pause, abandon the game, or read the instructions.
Despite the overall difficulty, the gameplay is very cool. Because the ship is already aligned with your mouse, all you need to do is press the left mouse button to fire the main weapons and the right mouse button to fire a laser. The game's mechanic is that you must constantly shoot. If you stop for three seconds, you lose power aka health. It's the same as getting hit by an enemy bullet or colliding with them.
Collecting orbs recharges the laser. These can be found everywhere and are dropped by destroying enemies. Power, on the other hand, is recharged by collecting a different orb that doesn't appear very often. This orb not only enhances and strengthens your weapon, but it also creates a clone that follows your every move. You may have up to four additional clones.
Because evading enemy fire is difficult enough with one ship, let alone five, the game has an intriguing mechanic. When you stop shooting, you become invisible and cannot be hit by bullets. Clones also disappear the moment you release the button.
You must still fire within three seconds to keep the power, but you can move around and quickly find a safe spot. Boss fights are particularly exciting since they require you to move away, fire for a fraction of a second to reset the timer, wait for an opportunity to strike it, and repeat until the boss is dead. Another cool thing during bosses is that power orbs keep showing up so you’re never powerless. You need this because bosses cause more damage, have a lot of health and can take you out with a cheap shot.
There are just five chapters. Once you've completed them, there are no achievements or extras except boss rush.
