Welcome to CREO, the megacorporation saving our world! A catastrophic event has knocked you out during the first day on the job… you wake up equipped with a heavy-grade exoskeleton, in a destroyed section of the complex. Robots gone haywire, insane augmented co-workers and rogue AI – everything wants you dead. Defy deadly enemies and huge bosses in tight, visceral melee combat. Target and slice specific limbs off your foes, with a next-gen loot system where you loot what you dismember! Equip, upgrade and craft new weapons and armors sliced from enemies, and make yourself stronger through a fresh take on leveling-up.

Salutations, fellow CREO employees!
Did you ever:
- dismember a techno-zombie just because you fancied their leg-wear?
- open the door by zapping your nervous system with a hefty dose of electricity?
- get backflip-kicked square in the face by a quadrupedal battle driod?
- duel a giant nanite-infested cat mascot while wearing a metal mouse suit?
If any of the above applies to you, please stop drinking alcoholic beverages and ingesting medical drugs at the same time, seek professional help and THEN play “The Surge”
On a more serious note:
I’ve heard a lot of less than positive things about “The Surge”. Imagine my delight when I finally played it and discovered that I can’t actually agree with most defeatists.
The game is clearly a “souls-like”, but it felt way different to me. The fights are slower and a require patience. The fact that you can gain benefits like items and health using the “dismemberment mechanic” changes the dynamic a lot and make group encounters feel a lot less helpless. Deciding how you use your core energy, which applies to armour (sets have their own benefits), healing and implants that provide various buffs is a fun way to polish your own build. There are not too many weapon types, but they differ a lot.
The only thing that I sometimes disliked is the level design. Some locations (The Nucleus!) are chaotic and hard to navigate. They also look pretty dull.
All in all, “The Surge” is pretty great to finish and really fun to complete achievement-wise. It’s a solid game.
