The Rainy Port Keelung 雨港基隆
Sorry, now there are only English interface, English subtitles are still being processed,we hope to complete as soon as possible.
1945.
It was the end of an era – with the defeat of Japan, WWII had come to an end. Taiwan, a former colony of Japan, faced a change in ownership. One by one, soldiers from China boarded onto the island, from the port of Keelung. The Taiwanese welcomed these soldiers, expecting a better life, under the governance of those of whom that were supposed to be their kin.
It didn’t exactly turn that way.
It is a story about what Japan have left for Taiwan. It is also story about the very land of Formosa. It is also a story about the relationship between the Taiwanese residents, and those who have come from China.
The story will develop into the year of 1947, where the players would face one of the most traumatic historical events in the history of Taiwan.

The game still isn't my fav ever but apparently the slow middle was the worst part. I still would have made it shorter and cut some of the conflicts but I did like it in the beginning and I am liking it now. I still haven't reached a single ending but i think I'm getting close. For now I intend to go for every single ending. My reading speed is still slow but has picked up somewhat, not anywhere close to that of a native speaker though.
My original review
I'm sure there is a public for this game, it is not terrible by any means. I'll write the review I wish *I* saw before buying. For context, I play VNs to learn Chinese and otherwise I'm not deep in the genre. This game is the first time I'm reading traditional, I went in without any prep. I'm picking it up by using the pop-up dictionary a lot and my reading speed currently is 60% of the one for simplified, which is already much slower than that of a native. Keep that in mind as this means the story is progressing slower for me than for someone who can read it fast.
The characters and setting are kind of interesting. The beginning, when we get to know all of the characters and MC is going through an emotional roller-coaster living through an important societal transition he barely understands, amidst different cultures, and getting to know a mysterious, fascinating girl. Then it gets boring.
The story is too slow, the political conflicts involve characters with no voice acting and often not even a name. They just come across as generic Evil People from The Party. I'm yawning and waiting for it to get better. After the captivating beginning, even the romance and SoL elements became boring. MC is just living his life clueless about the gazillion girls who like him and waiting for the plot to happen. There is no intrigue, no progression, no nothing. We're just given hints that the evil guys are in the works and something will happen.
I intend to keep playing for now. I won't let this become another Tricolour Lovestory. If it continues to be boring and long, I'll drop it. But otherwise I'm still a little curious about the different endings. Specially the girls, who are kind of interesting.
