About the Game
Discover a dark mystery only a medium can solve. Explore the real world and the spirit world at the same time. Use your psychic abilities to solve puzzles spanning both worlds, uncover deeply disturbing secrets, and survive encounters with The Maw – a monster born from an unspeakable tragedy..
The Medium is a third-person psychological horror game that features patented dual-reality gameplay and an original soundtrack co-composed by Arkadiusz Reikowski and Akira Yamaoka.
Wield unique psychic abilities reserved for those with the gift. Travel between the realities or explore them both at the very same time. Use the Out of Body experience to investigate places where your real-world self can’t go. Create energy shields and deliver powerful spirit blasts to survive the spirit world and its otherworldly dangers.
Delve deep into a mature and morally ambiguous story, where nothing is what it seems and everything has another side. As a medium you see, hear and experience more than others, and with every new perspective you will change your perception on what happened at the Niwa resort.
Never-seen-before and officially patented gameplay that plays out across two worlds displayed at the same time. Explore the physical world and the spirit world simultaneously, and use the interactions between them to solve dual-reality puzzles, unlock new paths, and awaken memories of past events.
The Medium’s spirit world is a dark mirror reflection of our reality, a grim and unsettling place where our unpunished deeds, evil urges, and vile secrets manifest themselves and can take on a form. This world has been invented and designed under the inspiration of Zdzisław Beksiński’s paintings, Polish dystopian surrealist internationally recognized for his distinctive and strikingly ominous style.
Immerse yourself in the disturbing and oppressive atmosphere of the game thanks to the original ‘dual’ soundtrack co-created by Akira Yamaoka and Arkadiusz Reikowski. Yamaoka-san is a legendary Japanese composer best known for his work on the Silent Hill series; Reikowski is a Hollywood Music in Media Awards nominee who worked on such acclaimed horror games as Blair Witch, Layers of Fear, and Observer. Now they join their creative forces for the music and songs of The Medium.

From the first minutes I was fascinated. The "dual world" mode is really well done and the soundtrack is spot on.
Only one thing I'm not appreciating, the "fixed" camera. It was certainly a deliberate choice so as not to lose certain scenes within the game, but at certain moments I would have liked to have a better look at the surrounding landscape. It would be nice if a photo mode was integrated into the game. My rating 8/10

Being a big fan of Silent Hill games Medium hits the right spot for me. The game is almost like SH environment and feeling like, minus action and killing. It is all about the story, suspense, dreadfulness.
Two big minuses for me are:
- Game is just too short for the price, took me only few hours (and I was super slow).
- Optimisation is very, very, VERY bad. Was playing on 4k 4090, 7950X 32 gb, 1tb SSD Samsung Pro. And almost all on maximum settings was giving less then 60 fps on different parts of the game with serious drops to 25-29 during some of cinematic and split screen times.
If you are a fan of SH get this game or, if you can wait, on sale.

A memorable, at times heart-breaking story that left me on the edge of my gamer chair.

Great game but medium quality
Rating: 7.5/10
If you love awesome horror cinematic games with astonishing graphics, music, storyline, etc with the likes of games like Hellblade, you should love this game despite some flaws.
The controls and animation don't really hold up to the quality of this game's cinematics and graphics. They feel stiff at best during gameplay. But the immersion is too good as it does not block your screen with any HUD stuff. This ain't a hardcore horror game (it's somewhat a walking simulator but with activities) so it might be best for casual horror fans too. <3
Also, the game is demanding on GPU especially if you enable shadows or when a split screen happens between the spiritual and real world, the game renders 2 worlds and hits hard on performance. It's definitely not the worst, but not greatly optimized either.
Overall, it's great just keep your expectations in check and buy it only on sale =)

Very enjoyable game. Amazing plot with interesting twists + good soundtrack. Definitely worth the time to finish the game.

I played it on a MacBook Pro 16 inch, M1 PRO and 16 GB RAM. If you struggling with unstable FPS, I can recommend trying to set/use graphics settings «AMD FSR 1.0». This setting was a game changer for an more stable FPS. best regards a Mac-gamer.

1. Very interesting story, superb voice acting to match the superb writing in expressing accurate emotion and story. Out of this world improvement from Layers of fear 2 and then Blair witch as well.
2. Graphically beautiful game, do wish it was more optimised to run ray tracing and max settings. Can only get 60-140 fps on 4k max settings, RTX 4080, Ryzen9 7950x, 32gb DDR5 6000mhz. Trying to add ray tracing would make the game crash.
3. Sound track is well picked and used very nicely to help portray themes of sadness, happiness etc.
4. Game mechanics are extremely unique and very enjoyable to use and experience.
5. The Atmosphere of the game was immaculately balanced in the sense of being used correctly in tense scenes or in more story focused scenes instead of the inconsistency i found in Blair witch.
Overall a solid 10/10 for me, rated higher then Layers of fear. Stated as their most ambitious game so far, by far the best one they've made in my opinion.
