To be honest, this game feels like a cross between LEGO Worlds and LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga. And considering that it was released between the two, it makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately, the plot is hard to discern. Otherwise, it's a great game with some very fun new mechanics.

It's okay. Follows the basic story of the movie. Simple and relaxing, a short game. A slightly different game play with choosing tools and objects to build. I liked the giant boss fights. Disappointed that there wasn't a Bruce Willis character. Music from the movie in the game. Spent a little extra time looking for every item and every object you can scan beyond the 100% and achievements.

I completely understand the negative reviews - this isn't what anyone would describe as a typical Lego Video Game, BUT for what it is, I really did like it.
People saying there's no storyline clearly can't follow a story because there very much was one. Granted it wasn't that great, and I haven't seen the second Lego Movie to comment on whether it's following that or not, but there's a story.
This reminds me a lot of Lego City, which I think if the title of the game had included something along the lines of it being like that game, then it would have a lot less negative reviews. But yeah like I said it's not anywhere near the same as the usual Lego game.
That mixed with the fact that this is one of the newer ones and they STILL haven't fixed the million bugs/glitches/issues from all the other ones, definitely explains why most people are angry.
But being as I enjoyed it I shall be rating positive, however a neutral would work better imo.

The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame has already blown away my expectations of Lego. It follows the plot of the movie very loosely (compared to The Lego Movie Videogame) It isn't just a re-skin of the previous Lego Movie Videgame, which followed the same old Lego game formula; a bunch of linear levels followed by one big hub world with secrets to unveil. It takes HEAVY influences from Lego Worlds and open world collectathons. Below I will state what I like and what I do not like so far!
Pros
⚫The controls are much better and I have noticed that it is KEYBOARD FRIENDLY this time around!
⚫You have a lot of Quests to do. They are very simple (so far) and I think its really tailored to the younger ages.
⚫You get a Video Tutorial that explains how to build, use your tools, use your menu, to navigate e.t.c. Very user friendly.
⚫Remarkably, the graphics are actually pretty damn good.
⚫You can build almost anywhere you want, and you can choose what you want to build. Just like Lego Worlds. (with a few exceptions of course)
⚫So far, the 3 "worlds" that I have unlocked are stunning, colourful, vibrant and (ironically) full of life.
The game supports "local coop" and "Steam Remote Play". Played a little in coop and it was a blast.
⚫A lot of characters, weapons, houses, items e.t.c to unlock via these "loot" drop things that you open up in shops.
⚫A unique take on the standard Lego games.
⚫Fun for the entire family.
⚫Very well optimised. No crash's, freezing, stuttering, FPS drops e.t.c. I am amazed.
⚫Tonnes of free content was given to us which adds on to the already stunning game we get to play!
Cons - What I do not like so far
⚫I played the "Early Access" edition of this game and it had fill voices for the quests but now the full game only has text boxes? why? Is it a setting I need to enable?
⚫The game can get boring fast, like... really fast. All the quest are STUPIDLY easy to complete which offer NO challenge at all.
⚫The first "Vehicle" you get, the giant robot kitty thing... while running it gets caught on everything. The slightest bump, increase in height, decrease in height and it gets stuck on the spot forcing you to jump. So more or less the first "vehicle" is a "SPAM A to jump vehicle"
⚫So far, the voice acting is terrible. It is not the original voice cast and Emmet has not spoken once. Is he not the main selling point of The Lego Movie?
⚫The Lego Movie 2 is not its own game, realistically. It is Lego Worlds, Same tools, Same Planets and so on. Its just copy and paste, re-branded.
⚫The Lego Movie 2 Videogame is proof that not all songs need a remix. I miss the original "EVERYTHING IS AWESOME".
It has NO missions. It is just planets with "open world missions" that have no collectables. No gold bricks. No character tokens, no red bricks and sadly... no whimsical easter egg secrets.
⚫How can they screw up a map this bad. It is a tiny little "radar" on your upper right hand side of your screen. Yes it shows your "collectables" and "where to go" but to track objectives on such a SMALL little circle... where is the big FULLSCREEN map like Lego Superheroes 2?
My Verdict
So far, this has been a breathe of fresh air for me. Rather than having to do the entire story 2 times, for about 10-20 hours, then open world content, another 15-25 hours, and if I have missed anything - clean up time 5 hours extra. With this game, it feels like I am free to enjoy what I want, when I want. I just miss the whimsical easter eggs and the quips for pure humour like star wars.
EDIT: Game lasted me 9 hours 55 minutes. That is how long this game lasts. Not worth it FULL price at all.
So far a solid 8/10! With how optimised this game feels and the FREE content that we got given, who would not love this game!

This game gave me lego movie related dreams for days.
So take that as a positive or negative.
