The Dwarves

The Dwarves is a fantasy role-playing game with a strong story and tactically challenging real-time battles. 15 playable heroes, each with individual skills, are to be deployed cleverly. Take on superior numbers of orcs, ogres, älfs, bögnilim, zombies, dark mages and many more foes, to give them the low-down. Based on the bestselling novel “The Dwarves” by Markus Heitz you’ll experience a fascinating tale revolving around the coolest fantasy race ever: The Dwarves! Tactical real-time battles: You’re fighting hundreds of foes with just a handfull of heroes. You can pause anytime to tactically plan the next smart move. Crowd Combat: All creatures on the battlefield are rendered with physical complexity – that’s why the battles feel especially dynamic and “real”, and enabling a lot of tactical finesse.

TLDR; fine gem, worth buing on sale. Has some irritating bugs, but still enjoyable. Very short tho.
My ratings:
Story 9/10
Lore/climate 9/10
Graphics 7/10
Gameplay 8/10
UX/bugginess 6/10
Audio 9+/10 (a huge plus for the fantastic outro metal track)
I was in love in this game since the very beginning. The entire story is very nice and spiced with great voice acting (every single line is voice acted). The combat is pleasant (active pause YAY! <3), the lore is great, the feeling of a "dwarf game" is strong.
The biggest flaw of the story is that it is very short (completed it after 15h and I take my games VERY slowly and tend to look under every stone).
There are some issues the devs should adress, as they are annoying and spoil the experience:
-camera getting "stuck" to the characters - many people have this issue, during the game you cannot change cam position, rotation or zoomi in/out.
-some subtitles are missing (however as I mentioned there is a FULL voice acting to the story, so no biggy)
-relationship counter resseting to 10 at endgame
-party members falling of cliffs even on basic attacks (that one is very frustrating and sometimes makes you loose in an "unfair" way)
-some optimalization issues especially outside combat (the game likes to loose a few frames every couple of seconds for no reason - doesnt disturb the gameplay, but is somewhat irritating and ugly)
I would treat this game as a little novel gem that I hold dear. I fell in love with it from the very start ant it helped me withstand the issues it has at the moment. I had a great time with it and I hope there will be a continuation to the well written story, perhaps a longer one. Let this be "The Hobbit" for an upcomming epis "Lord of the rings" saga.
