THE CITADEL is a hardcore, brutal old-school shooter full of action that’s a throwback to the 90’s classics that we all love.
Fight through 6 Episodes of 30 action packed levels (and an additional 6 secret levels). Face off against 6 fearsome bosses.
Carry 14 different types of weapons, with obliterating secondary fire functions. Make the world tremble with 3 types of single-use special weapons.
・Unlimited Continues.
・You can continue trying until you break. Hub areas serve as respite if you find the episode to be too difficult.
・Completely skill based: no cheap Hitscanner, all projectiles. You live as good as you dodge.
・Huge enemy variety and diversity. From axe throwing cultists, to suicide drones, to mecha tanks, and flamethrower troopers.
Kick the Opponent into Lava!
・Light-weight enemies can be kicked and stunned. Get your positioning right, and you can also make them fall into a bottomless pit or lava.
Upgradable Weapons
・Some weapons can be upgraded or switched to superior versions.
Gibs!
・Enemies explode into chunks of meat or metals when they die. Ouch!
Optional Features: Leaning and Weapon Jam
The Citadel contains numerous optional features for added replayability and difficulty.
・Leaning can be enabled in a option menu. Dodging is not the only way to avoid the enemy fire.
・Weapon condition features can be enabled in a option menu.
・Automatic weapons can be jammed in the middle of a battle, and they will be eventually broken.

It's a bit of a mixed bag, but I'd reccomend it anyway.
Very fun, many different enemies (I love the bosses), loads of different weapons and an unique artstyle.
Feels and looks a bit like a mix of Doom (sprites and gore), Anime (Sprites), Scorn (some of the assets and level design) and a modern shooter. Also there are some unique mechanics, like putting on and off your helmet (reminds me of MDK) or unloading your weapon. Also you have to reload single bullets with the pistol or shotgun. Also the levels are quite big with some secrets to uncover.
Very little hand helding. You gotta find out most of it yourself. But that's part of the fun and charme in my opinion.
Sadly the game has some (graphic)-bugs, performance issues (on my 2070 Super framerate drops to 50 sometimes) and it takes some time and fiddeling with the settings to get used to the shooting and especially the jumping. It's easy to jumo too far when you want instead to hold on onto a ledge for example. Plus there are some spelling errors and translation mishaps.
Has been some time since a game gave me the feeling of being alone and not in the right place.
The soundtrack adds hugely to the void (in positive) atmosphere.

Good game so far , but i have minor issues with it.
When i tried to reload my empty Minigun i couldnt change my weapons which killed me 3 times.
And on top couldnt pick up the Mech because of it ... thanks for ruining my run minigun
it also tends to crash without any reason ( mostly during level changes ) which kind of sux because sometimes nothing except logging off completely will work ...

The selection of weapons is great and they are all really fun to handle in the game.
The alternative fire modes and secondary ammo add a lot when it comes to fast paced playthroughs with a lot of weapon switching.
I think some things like food and the recalibration stone for reviving were not really explained but somehow i figured it out.
If you want to shoot at things give it a try.
By the way, for all the crybabies, you can disable the gore if you feel the need to do that, but then i'd have to ask why you are even playing it in the first place.

Absoluter Geheimtipp für alle, die sich nicht an der (eher hässlichen) Grafik stören. Dieser Ego-Shooter hat eine ganz eigene Atmosphäre, wunderbare Spielbarkeit und ein ausgezeichnetes Waffenhandling, welches fast konkurrenzlos ist.
