Good game sadly not many players on, only me and 2 other players on when i played for 1 whole hour.
The achievement i got when reaching level 10 on steam only 6.9% of players have it which is sad, like i said great game but sadly is empty.

I wanna keep it simple..
I played couple of free MMORPGs recently and Tales of Yore is the most free-to-play-friendly one. Let me explain.
First of all, you don't have any inventory space limit. You have unlimited backpack and unlimited chest space that you can reach from every town... wooow!! just woow! I played another MMO and it had only ~25 backpack spaces and it was trying to sell extra 4 slot for 0.99$. That was enough for me to LOVE Tales of Yore and its developer instantly.
In addition to that, when you kill an enemy you earn GOLD and with that gold you can buy different color of bags to orginize your items. Also, you can buy many different Pets to ride or fight with you, again, with GOLD. You can buy yourself a house with GOLD, buy new blueprints to craft and put different kind of workstations in your house with GOLD. When you finish some quest line and open that feature you can fast travel around the map with again GOLD. Only GOLD! Not with a special type of gem you have to pay real money or earn very slowly from daily login rewards or loot from epic boss battles. Just for freaking GOLD. Tales of Yore lets you do almost everything with GOLD. I can not emphasize that strong enough you can do or get almost anything important in this game with only killing simple mobs to earn GOLD. There is not a single map area or a boss or a dungeons behind a pay wall as far as i know. There are some patreon privilege and quests and mostly cosmetic items you can buy with paying real money but that is it. I almost forgot, you can even reset all your attribute points to change your play style completely with only... GOLD. This is unbelievable.
Also, I loved the exploration part of the game. It doesn't hold your hand all the time. Not showing you the way to the next quest areas. You have to search around, talk to NPCs or reread the vague quest logs to find it. Or you can ask in chat. And believe me, there are so many secrets in this little game and you really should talk with other players, ask for help to solve those puzzles and if there is someone around, they're sure gonna answer your questions. It has a very small community but they are all super friendly and happy to see new players around. And thanks god game also has somewhat useful wiki.
I want to add one last thing before i finish my review.. I played this game as a Mage, i felt like a glass cannon and i died a lot but, Tales of Yore still let me kill every boss in this game SOLO. Sometimes i had to run around like a little bunny for 5-10 minutes to not get any hit and slowly drained its HP. Other time, i reached another boss, hit it once or twice, got one-shotted by its AOE attack then i had to find a fast way to reach that boss area again before it completely regenerated its health before i hit it once more. I have to admit that, not a single moment of this journey was ideal, or I wouldn't recommend it to any player who isn't crazy, and it took a very long time, I died 100+ times in the process.. and all this time, i was worried that next time when i reached that boss room i would find it back in full health, but that never happened so i managed to kill it and that made me feel AWESOME. And i know, some of you guys may think that the game is broke but at that time all i could think was " Damn!! This is some freedom!" Tales of Yore let me be a stubborn suicidal little bunny and played the game as i wish. Thank you devs! Really thank you.
So.. Is the game grindy? well at the beginning... sometimes. But it didn't bother me much.. however, in the end game phase.. hell yeah. This is an MMORPG so it shouldn't be a surprise to any of us, right? I think I'll slowly stop playing it now when I finally reach that grindy phase but don't get me wrong the last 200 hours of game play was hell of a fun.
And so... Is this game perfect? No. Does it need improvement, sure it does. There are some glitches that can make you stuck. (you can type /fix in chat to get rid of it or disconnect and log in again in 3 seconds so it is not that annoying.) More quests and better quest rewards would be nice. DMG-DEF calculations need some work.. Boss fights need some variety, all the leveling math behind crafting skills need some balancing but even in its current state, Tales of Yore is still one of the best free-to-play, player-friendly pixel MMORPG on steam. I wish the dev good luck and thanks again for the 200h of fun.

I was living on the streets. This game was walking home from work. I asked for money, but instead Yore just took me back home and I've been living here ever since!
On a serious note, this game has charm like no other. The pixel art is some of the highest quality that I've ever seen while also being the lowest resolution I've come across - the beauty of the world alone keeps me wandering around at times, just to enjoy the scenery and the many different enemies. Everything feels real and the world feels lived-in; places, mobs, and content all feel like they belong there.
I have been playing MMO's since I can remember, and one thing that most have forgotten over the years is how to have engaging gameplay. This game has that and so much more. There is a lot to do, many places to explore, an open-end classless combat system that lets you chose how you want to play and also lets you adjust and reset whenever.
The community is small but growing and are very friendly and always willing to help out new people. The game is constantly being updated and is far from done, yet already has hundreds of hours of gameplay in its' current state.
If you were looking for an addictive pixel-based MMO to start fresh adventures with new or old friends, then this is the game for you!

This was an extremely charming pixel art MMORPG that did a lot of things right. Unfortunately, it has been discontinued at the time of writing this review; one can only hope it will be hosted on private servers and live on. It is truly a shame its development was abandoned, which was evident from the outpouring of support of supportive comments at the time the news broke. Hopefully, the developer will continue making games. The players of Tales of Yore wish them all the best
