Sunless Skies is a Gothic Horror roleplay game with a focus on exploration and exquisite storytelling. Command a flying steam locomotive The only thing between you and the waste-winds, storms and cosmic lightning is your engine. Tend and upgrade it, buy weaponry and exotic equipment, and keep her hull in good shape to hold the hostile Heavens at bay. Explore a unique and dangerous universe You play the captain of a locomotive, a steam engine fitted for off-rail travel: sailing the stars, leading your crew into trouble and out of their minds. Smuggle souls, barter for crates of time, stop for cricket and a cup of tea. Discover more of the deep, dark and marvellous Fallen London Universe, as seen in our previous game, Sunless Sea. (You can play either game first, the stories coexist happily.) Fight her majesty's agents, pirates and abominations of the skies Face ships of differing factions and unknowable beasts each with different attacks and agendas.

This one of the best free-roams I've ever played. It has also an amazing story line and there's a lot of discover. It really feels like D&D honestly.

A lot of this game involves reading, so if that's not your thing then I would probably recommend to go look somwhere else. If it is, then you'll get a vast, grotesque steampunk world built by a well written narrative and climatic soundtrack, that you can explore an try to understand the way it works for hours, probably dying many times in the process. Then when you finally think you know what to do some crazy thing happens that flips things on it's head.
If you're wondering whether you should try it if you haven't played previous games from this universe (Fallen London browser game or Sunless Seas), they might help you get into the world, but Sunless Seas is a tad harder to approach for new players, so this is also a decent starting point

A game with a veeery unusual Lovecraft-like London setup with flying (!) Trains (though without carriages, which is a pity) and all-encompassing darkness. Lots of read texts that build the plot and engage you in the story (unfortunately not in Polish, because the language is quite specific and the vocabulary is quite demanding). The fight is quite slow but reflects the atmosphere. Some possibilities of expanding the train, taking care of resources and a few statistics straight from Call of Cthulhu. Encouraged I bought Sunless Sea (the previous game by the creators) and the quality difference is strongly felt (SKIES is much nicer and more atmospheric). Music is matching the atmosphere. As for the plot itself, I played too little to comment.
Gra z baaardzo nietypowym setupem Lovecrafto-podobny Londyn latające (!) pociągi (choć bez wagonów, a szkoda) i wszechoograniająca ciemność. Muzyka pasująca do klimatu. Co do samej fabuły zbyt mało grałem żeby się wypowiedzieć.
