Genre score 8/10
At first, I didn't like the fact that it doesn't feature first person space sim and only third person perspective, although I've read there is an update in the works which allows for cockpit views. However, the hull designs of the ships look so fast/powerful you'll probably enjoy the game more looking at your ship as you fight enemies.
Story score 5/10
The story, while at a glance, isn't something you could entirely sink your teeth into yet I don't think the main purpose of a game such as this is supposed to boggle you down with plot detail and lore. You want to shoot the weapons, not take them apart to find out if they use magic crystals.
Presentation score 10/10
I really like the way everything is partitioned within the game, mostly due to the no frills user interface. Even your hangar is purpose built for one ship, yours, with the rest of your collected ships hidden away in some subterranean passageway. Levels are concisely categorized to space jump points accessible for replay in the menu. This plays well into revisiting/mining which you'll need as you progress into more challenging scenarios.
Music score 9/10
This game deserves its great soundtrack tag.
Technical score 8/10
Textures are not exactly on par with some other games out there but the level design does grab your attention which is a feat considering that it's the void of galactic space. The lighting/effects are some of the best eye candy.
Gameplay score 7/10
The only real issue I had with the game was in sustaining my speed boosts, mainly in evasive maneuvering. The game severely limits afterburner use to the point of constant recharge with constant reuse. Some may welcome this as a strategic challenge of when to use the afterburner while I don't, at least not all the time. When lacking resources to decently "level up" it can even be quite a noticeable flaw inherent to any of the ships because even though you can increase the stats to your weapon load out, shields, and fastest speed, a set duration afterburner seems to be the only option.
