When Street Fighter V originally launched, it completely missed me. The lack of content was hard to ignore and the heavy focus on competitive play made it feel unfinished and unwelcoming unless you were already deep into the FGC. Back then, I dropped it pretty quickly.
Fast forward to today, and honestly? Street Fighter V has become an incredibly content-rich and enjoyable fighting game.
There is now a massive amount of stuff to do: a wide variety of game modes, tons of stages, an absurd number of costumes, and a huge roster of playable characters that spans multiple generations of the franchise. It finally feels like a complete package rather than a bare-bones competitive platform.
What I especially appreciate is the strong sense of nostalgia. Classic stages from Super Street Fighter II and Street Fighter Alpha 2 are lovingly recreated, and they do a fantastic job of reminding you why this series became legendary in the first place.
The gameplay systems also deserve praise. The option to choose between two different V-Triggers and V-Skills for each character adds a surprising amount of depth. It genuinely feels like you can play the same character in very different ways depending on your loadout, which keeps matches fresh and encourages experimentation.
Another unexpected factor that pulled me back in was Street Fighter 6. With SF6 currently receiving little to no new content or balance updates, I found myself revisiting SFV—and realized just how polished and well-supported it has become over the years.
On top of all that, the gameplay feels intuitive and beginner-friendly. New players can pick up characters quickly, while more experienced players still have plenty of room to optimize, learn matchups, and dig deep into the mechanics.
Sure, SFV had a rough start—but what matters is where it ended up. In its current state, Street Fighter V is a fun, accessible, and content-packed fighting game that absolutely deserves a second look.
