When i first bought this game thinking it was gonna be a fun thing to turn my brain off to i didn't really expect to like it as much as i did, but i also didn't expect the whole trilogy to get taken to the middle of the desert by Cartoon Network and shot on the back of the head so maybe i should stop trusting my intuition.
The main thing that separates this game from other turn based RPGs with QTE mechanics is that instead of each character having a turn, you have a set number of points, and each character's action costs a different amount of those points.
This system, which seems simple at first, unleashes a lot of what I find unique about this game. Say, for example, you find a character with move that you really like, instead of having to pass turns in order to do it as much as possible, you can just spam it four times in a row in a single turn while the poor tank that is only there to attract agro with its presence prepares themselves to be beaten to a pulp the second you click to pass the turn.
This, obviously, gives you an incredible amount of room to experiment. want to spam the fire attack with Amethyst and watch as the poor enemy cries in pain as 5 stacks of burn cook him alive? go for it. Want to use Connie to move all the enemies to one line using her portals and then spam the skill (THAT SHE ALSO HAS) that harms all enemies on the same line? why not? try it out. Want to spend the next five minutes chaining Bismuths mine sweeper minigames until your damage dealer has literally every buff that exists in the game? go on, no one is stopping you.
The problem is that, at some point, the experimentation is gonna run a little dry, some characters are just too good to change, and others are just too synergistic to ever be able to be replaced.
Greg and Bismuth work so well together I beat the final boss on my first try in three turns. The amount of buffs that bysmuth is able to give and the sheer quantity of star points ( that let me remind you, are literally the most important resource in the whole game) that Greg is able to produce makes them basically irreplaceable.
But then the problem is that, when you finish experimenting, all those design decisions that weren't really a big deal before, become the reason why i'm walking in circles in my room at 3 am while cursing the fact that i bought this game instead of My Lusty Femboy Roommate 3: Definitive Edition.
The fact that every character only has 4 moves at most makes it so you're gonna see the same quick time events so much that by the end of it, you're gonna be able to hit connie's sword QTE perfectly with your eyes closed, headphones off, arms tied behind your back and having to use your left buttcheek to press the mouse button.
It's tedious, but just when I realised this, I also realised something else, the characters dont share exp.
So, in other worlds, if after five hours of gameplay i get tired of connie, im gonna have to spend i don't know how many hours leveling up another character just so I can find out that they do less damage than her.Making it so I just wasted several hours of my time that i could have used to complain about the game mechanics of another discontinued game that no one cares about, a clear better use of my time.
Look, i dont wanna be so negative about this game, Steven Universe Attack The Light was the first rpg i really enjoyed and it changed the way i saw games up to that point. This is a complete upgrade from that game, and it's kinda incredible to see that i wasnt the only one who has grown since I first played that game on a corner of the house of one of my moms friends on my tablet. The art department is really pretty, a lot of characters are surprisingly complex, the upgrade tree really does change how you play each character and fifteen hours in, the game was still able to surprise me.
The reason I wrote an entire page crying like a baby that ♥♥♥♥ and pood in his diaper isn't because i think this game is bad, its because i know that, if grumpyface had been given a chance to make another game in this franchise, they would have to solved all these problems.
But now Steven Universe Unleash The Light is just another abandoned game that can't be purchased, left to slowly disappear with the passing of time and inaccessible by the people that didn't buy it before it was taken off steam.
On a completely unrelated note, did you know that steam unlocked has a free download link for Steven Universe Save The Light, Steven Universe Unleash The Light AND My Lusty Femboy Roommate 3: Definitive Edition? just google steam unlocked and remember to have ad blocker turned on when you enter so you don't accidentally download something else.

Pretty solid game. I´ll start with the good stuff: I'm really glad they introduce Lapis as a playable charater, I like the improvement in the skill tree and the clothe system. And really enjoyed this version of the "friendship" mechanic, being a general bar instead of being different for each member.
Personally I liked the artstyle from the previous game.
Now with the bad stuff:
It really sucks that they went back to the movement from the first game, since the second game gave us the chance to see more complex level designs, as well as puzzle design.
Another complaint I have with Unleash the Ligh compared to Save, is how the previous game made me change up my team more often, as for this one I stuck to the same 3 gems. I feel this might be the result of the characters having reduced movesets. Rose's Room is a gamemode I did not enjoyed and left uncomplete,
Overall I think is a good game for SU fans, but not the best one of the trilogy.

Only today did I realize that this game alongside Save The Light was de-listed from the Steam Store like this.
look i'm not gonna pretend i'm a professional at reviewing Any games for this matter, okay. but still, i'm dotting my opinion down here so that it Can be seen. it's the best i could think of in memory of this game's availability.
The fact that a player's characters can act at all being tied to a skill point system that counts for anything That Player does, and the fact that each character is pretty much their own thing in terms of the moves they have because of said global skill point logic, seems fair enough.
The Perfect hit mechanic is Almost entirely comprehensible, as it should be (or better) for any RPG that teaches you to put in the effort when attacking and/or defending.
Pretty basic side-quests, but the light puzzles (especially the colored light puzzles) are complicated beyond casual players' understandings.
The Palace of Light itself is pretty neat for what's basically the mega-level of the game, though sometimes it can feel like a Labyrinth if a player doesn't plan on taking any Warp Pad shortcuts.
Replayability in Story Mode, OUTSIDE of the Black Hole chapter, mind us, is scarce. Sure, Pyrope and that Three Prism monster are rematchable, but then again, still back-to-back. No other bosses seem to be rematchable other than Demantoid, which. I just. don't know why. other than potential achievement generosity? you guys Did offer a choice between Demantoid and her Prism. Either way, the few places I've checked out on my journey to find any non-black hole replayability, enemies do still seem to spawn.
Rose's Room is an adequate concept at worst, great concept at best. i can't put my finger on it and that's because that mode's Meant to highly probably script your first losses for you until you level the room up high enough through your own in-game suffering.
I've encountered my fair share of bugs, but they're all Mostly harmless just funny quirks that affect pretty much nothing relevant.
I'm glad I purchased this while I still could, but this is where gloves become gauntlets ; why would people like You Ever de-list this? Because it simply wasn't profitable anymore? I've really only one thing to say about that ; A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. INSULT. THE ONLY REASON this review comes across as Positive, is because by THE BAREST SKIN OF METAPHORICAL TEETH, my enjoyment of this game seems to outweigh just how badly you've disappointed your consumers in the end. at least in my head. Did You Consider that people would be against Any digital resources being taken away from further access without One Ounce Of Notice? Because they are. They Have Been, and God knows how long ago you've decided to subtract this from all the distractions from the monotony and fan-hitting ♥♥♥♥ life in the outside world.
this is besides the point, but, i'm a modder for another game. that is, where people create fan-made playable content or edits for said game. a few years ago i decided i didn't want my creations around, so off they went. deleted. later on i created a single mod but one day, OH NO. i didn't want myself or that creation around. AGAIN. GONE. and then it happened a third time a considerable amount of months much later. i wanted myself and my creations gone from that radar for a long time to focus on enduring school and the harassment i'd get from home because of school, but what did I leave behind in my wake? disappointment and despair. a small percent of said disappointment and despair still seems to be indefinite to this day. of course i couldn't help but come back a fourth time, though, and let me tell you ; the mods I have, what I've chosen I want to keep around for as long as possible for once, surprisingly enough they're better than Any of my previous creations ever were. i'm proud of my programming skills even if i'm not some einstein. but, it seems the community of that other game chooses simply not to appreciate my struggle as much as they once did.
There's things in common between your de-listing of Unleash The Light and the deletion of My former mods for Crypt of the NecroDancer ; taking away what your consumers love (mind us, COTN's mods are all meant to be Free to play, with that Synchrony DLC purchased first) Certainly leads to negativity. That negativity being anger, sorrow, just plain disappointment, the shattering of trust, an in-general loss of value in remorse, reason and/or reliability, MAYBE EVEN A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ BLOCKER OR TWO, WHO WILL GO OUT OF THEIR OWN WAY, TO *NOT* PAY ATTENTION TO REMORSE, TO *NOT* PAY ATTENTION TO THE DETAILS OF REDEMPTION, TO *NOT* PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT'S BECOME BETTER, QUITE POSSIBLY TO ALSO EVEN GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO *START. CONSPIRACIES.* ALL BECAUSE, THEY DON'T LIKE *ONE*. *HUMAN*. ANYMORE.
but you know what? We can't blame our blockers, Cartoon Network. We deserve that they're angry at us, and I Myself still get if anyone's still angry at Me deep inside.
these are our consequences.
and this entire review of mine is the nice way of putting it.
May all good game developers one day #StopKillingGames .

There is a few issues with controler support, but otherwise it's a great port of the IOS version, which is a very good game

It is my favorite turn-based RPG period. I've never been so upset with a game being taken of steam since I'll never be able to play save the light on steam (I like the achievements, alright?) Go ♥♥♥♥ yourselves Warner Bros. The game is incredibly charming, it gives of Steven Universe vibe 100%. It is also a glitched mess all things considered. Nothing too gamebreaking, but its the only thing I am able to list of as a negative. The characters are well balanced. The soundtrack is amazing. Combat system is glorious. Overall an amazing experience
