Steel Saviour Reloaded is a shmup, originally release in 2004, destroy enemy and defeat all boss in 4 differents chapters.
Graphics (6 / 10) : The graphics are ok, unfortunately the graphics are still the same as the 2004 one, just with a better resolution.
Gameplay (6.5 / 10) : The base gameplay is classic but efficient, basic shmup with powerup system (heal / power up and 3 secondary weapon (triple shot / fast shot and missile)), and a bomb system (also really efficient again some boss), but nothing that revolutionizes this type of games.
The bestiairy diversity is too low, and only boss fight are really interesting and break the monotony.
The game difficulty is good, 8 lifes and saves between each level, so enjoyable even for people that discover shmup.
The treasure system (score system) is pretty useless because that only give extra lifes after finishing a level.
Price (5 / 10) : The game cost 6 euros, and have only 4 levels, unfortunately the game is really short and take around 1 hours for finish if you never die (2-3 hours with the checkpoints if you don’t finish the level first time)
Also no extra challenge / no difficulty setting or unlockable in the game.
Story/Music/Optimization (6/10) : Some story in the game, but too much text-based.
The music is ok, but too repetitive.
Don’t get problem of optimization, the game is pretty fluid and don’t get any freeze … (played on a i5, 2Go VRAM and 8Go RAM)
Final Note (5.9 / 10) : Steel Saviour Reloaded is a classic enjoyable shmup that don’t revolutionize the genre, but too short for the price asked, recommended on sale if you like old shmup.
+ :
- Secondary weapon / powerup system
- The boss fight
- Save between each level (not all shmup have this feature)
- :
- Really too short (4 levels / around 1 hours of playtime) for the asked price.
- The bestiairy diversity is too low / the game is too repetitive
