Way more fun than I expected. It's a sci-fi version of Hearthstone with more unique mechanics. It's fun, it's easy to learn (if you know Hearthstone you actually won't have to learn almost anything).
It's not Pay2Win, but Pay2Play, just like every other card game out there. You got to invest time and money to get really far. Same with Hearthstone and every other TCG and CCG, no escape from that.
All in all, a good, basic, card game with a lot of fun mechanics and, in my opinion, even more fun than Hearthstone itself.
Edit 1: Changed the Pay2Win comment to Pay2Play. Thanks to Baaron for clearing me up on that one :D

I started playing this and Hearthstone at the same time, so I'm late to Digital CCG, but I have played MTG off and on for 15+ years, so the concept is hardly new. After playing both Hearthstone and Star Crusade, I prefer Star Crusade. I find there more diversity on how the board is controlled, within the factions play styles, and multi-turn synergy/combos. It can be easy to download, play a few hands, and dismiss as "Hearthstone in SPACE" (Warcraft the Gathering?), but if you stick with it you will quickly see how it defines itself differently. The basic cards you get are decently strong and I have had success with them while earning packs, so you are not immediately at a huge disadvantage. I hope they are some how able to maintain this, as it allowed me to get into the game quickly and not eye roll when my opponents are playing the same legendary cards match after match.
Other than the game itself, the UI is good. Some of the card art is great, while some is laughable. The voices follow the same trend, but with 350 cards thus far there will be winners and losers, and it's also subjective. Whether you are new to CCG or have been playing MTG from the beginning this game has something to offer, and at time of writing it is only Beta.

It's pay 2 win, but it's still fun. I didn't play ranked yet cause I don't have a suitable deck for it, but I think it will keep me occupied for some time now. But I'm talking about Free part, no way I'm gonna pay big dollars for those crates and boosters. :)
It's similar to Hearthstone, Magic and all other card games out there.

Hearthstone. In. SPAAAAACE!
But in all seriousness, if one hasn't already guessed from the screenshots and other reviews, it's so mechanically similar to Hearthstone that it may as well be a reskin. If that fact already turns you off from the game, I don't blame you. A lot of what you'll see in this game is something Hearthstone already does, but with far more polish. Hearthstone is by far the more developed game compared to Star Crusade, and Hearthstone doesn't take itself nearly half as seriously as Star Crusade does. It's not a bad game, but it's difficult to judge Star Crusade on its own merits when much of it is so heavily borrowed from another game.
However, that's not to say that Star Crusade doesn't try to mix things up a little. Where there are obvious similarities, if not downright carbon-copied mechanics/classes with different labels --I'm looking at you Terran(Paladin) and Hierarchy(Priest)-- the game does try to introduce concepts you won't find in Hearthstone like Criticals, Mutate, Soak, Armored, etc. Some mechanics are not very well-explained, though, and tend to be up to the player to figure out (Criticals insta-kill, I think?) and in a CCG, not knowing what your or your enemy's cards do in the middle of a game is bad.
I will say that I'm having fun with the game so far, unpolished as it is. It's certainly worth a try for the novelty of playing a Hearthstone-like game with some different features you won't find in Blizzard's own CCG. Ultimately, it's hard to say if Star Crusade is really trying to be a good alternative to Hearthstone, or if it's a cynical 'follow-the-leader' cash grab hoping to net some Blizzard fans.
For now, I give it a tentative recommendation, if only for novelty's sake and the fact that it's free, but if you're looking for a Hearthstone 2.0, this probably isn't it.

EDIT: Modules can be drawn from boosters. Previously this review wrongly stated this isn't true, I'm sorry for confusion.
I dont know what this ridiculous notion of "p2w" is in regards to collectiable card games because since the dawn of Magic the Gathering CCGs were always expensive as heck. That said, there is a bunch to unpack about this game:
You definitely don't feel that you need highly expensive cards to win. While some cards feel very powerful, this isn't something constrained to Paragon tier cards, there are very common or even basic cards which are very powerful (I got two ranks on ladder just playing the base Terran Deck).
The Raid mode is a draft mode where you can choose multiple paths. There aren't any in-game explanations for this but apparently the point is that you can choose to go for bonus matches to gain higher rewards. The game doesnt bother to explain you a lot so eh. At least its kinda fun and you're guranteed to at least gain 3 random cards, so you never feel like you wasted time.
That said, there are a couple of things of which I don't know how impactful they are but they leave me concerned. First, unless you shell out a lot of money, you see a lot of Elite and higher Chests you unlock get discarded. I don't seem to be able to throw out common chests out of my collection (not even in advance), so I think this is something to try to trick the player into dropping cash to "save" a coveted Paragon Chest. Since I only saw Cosmetics in chests so far however, this might not even be very significant.
Second, crafting cards. In general, it feels significantly more effiicent to buy packs than bothering to disenchant cards. You have a loss ratio of 1:10 (!), so you need to disenchant 10 cards to get another card of the same rarity. Unless you have like a million excess cards, this is mostly just wasting cards.
To wrap this up, The game is a lot of fun and the module system in particular allows for a lot of gameplay choices. There are questionable aspects in regards to Pay content which is further amplified by a lack of explanations in game. Ultimately, I will recommend this because its worth checking out and heard good things about the devs. I would advise caution before putting money in here because it feels like there are a lot of money sinks with little return.

For everyone claiming this game is "Pay to win", I highly encourage you to view my Steam profile achievements for this game. You will see no first purchase achievement as I've not put a dime into this game...
Oh...
I'm currently rank 1 in the game (Top 27th as of October 18, 2016). It took me four days from rank 30. Please recognize you need to improve your own gameplay before accusing the game of pay to win.
To sum up: I'm rank 1 and paid nothing. Game isn't pay to win.

Many people say SC CCG is a Heartstone copy-paste, however I cannot agree. There is one very important aspect SC is superior in- the deck diversity. In HS you play against the exact same decks over and over again, while in SC that doesnt seem to be the case. Also, there are interesting deck strategies I havent seen before- like an enemy trying to force you to fill your side with cards, while removing their attack stat or making them unable to attack (pacifism).
+ The visual design is nice
+ The sound/music aspect is good
+ There are plenty of cards and different strategies
+ Classes that all play very differently
+ Cool devs
- May need some balancing, but devs are already working on it
- Lacks features
Overall its a fun game, tho it may feel too complex at first, but its worth the try.
