Spuds Unearthed is a mix of God game and RTS.
The game currently has no tutorial at all, and no menus or descriptions. For now you have to read the guide that’s in the forums to learn everything. But I’ll show you what I know after both reading that and playing.
You have a home area where you choose your units and upgrades. It has a variety of machines like a token dispenser, vehicle creation machine, a turret creating machine, and a unit upgrade machine.
Tokens are the way that you choose what you want to build. It’s like a very creative menu. For example when building a turret, you choose a token that represents the way you start the turret and a token for what type of firepower the turret has.
And when upgrading your units you choose the token that represents what the upgraded unit will do, then you place a unit and pull the lever to upgrade them.
For the vehicle machine you load one of three disks that are like flash drives, once you build and store the machine in that drive, you dock it back in place.
In the starmap each level is represented by a planet. The bigger the planet, the higher the difficulty.
During battle you can freely toss units onto the battlefield. And use the custom turrets you created by cranking or pulling them.
I find vehicles the most fun, place a unit inside and throw the plane out to send them fighting.
But don’t throw tanks, those go on the arrow.
I found this really fun to play. For a game just released in early access it’s incredibly polished. Albeit without any menus or descriptions. It’s $20 and for a different kind of strategy game I recommend it.

Edit: Okay played it a bit more and got a feel for it, I think I "get it" now and WOW. This is so much cooler then I expected. This reminds me of the first time I played WORMS like 20 years ago or whenever it came out, it was so different, yet so simple. Similar aesthetic too. 10/10 guys really good job.

Have only played for a few min but so far this is a very unique and polished game that I expect is going to be really good. Lack of instrucitons (as in, literally no instructions, just drops you into the fight with no options menu or tutorial), but they have a detailed guide in the community section. Protip: For vive users double press touchpad and then move it up or down to extend your hands. Really want to see some graphics options or a menu of some type for audio,graphics etc but it's EA and they are working on it per the devs.
Overall looks like a super unique and fun game, shout out to /r/vive where I first saw this bakc when they were just starting on this project.

HTC Vive was headset used with this title also have a video review here
Positives about this game
* Beautiful colorful levels
* A nice mix of action and a little bit of RTS
* Runs smoothly on system
Negatives that I ran into
* No real Tutorial I was lost with what I had to do as far as upgrades to both my turrets and spuds or even how I attain more.
* Needs more levels even though they are eye catching they lack variety to them.
* Enemy types so far have been the same couple on each planet and I am a few hours in only type of change that occurs is when you face a planet owned by a player.
Final Thoughts
This title can be fun but at the moment there is no drive for me to come back for more unless I want to just collect spuds I wish there was something in place besides that to make progression feel real. This title can change with updates and if some of my concerns are addressed then it will be a buy for me. The game does have enough in my opinion to satisfy someone who likes short play sessions and I do believe it offers enough to satisfy so I will give a yes.

Somebody needs to get a Tutorial video made pronto!!
As other have said there's no instruction what so ever. The core of the game is self explanatory, you drop your little dudes on to the battlefield, you man the cannon to aid against advancing enemy, while providing vehicular support with tanks or planes.
Away from that there's an update level where you can specialize your grunts, update the cannons to different types of fire, and create different plane/tank types (i think). Thats all done with hand motion interaction, you pull levers, grab coins from draws you pull out to place in slots, kind of like skyworld if you've played that.
The third screen is where you seem to pick your levels to conquer, you grab a planet and use your two handles pushed forward to engage the selected level.
The game is fun, but i would say it needs a leveling system on your grunts (if one doesn't exist) to keep your attention.
i'll tentatively recommend it, there's lots to like from the core game to the wonderful graphics, the VR interactions and seemless gameplay elements. Just keep your eye on the clock while figuring the game out, you'll spend a while doing that.

10/10 Great game one of the best VR Games i've Played. I love the feel and rhythm the game has. If you love WORMS ,I would easily recommend it to anyone looking for a VR Twist to play. Just remember this is an early access game right now and some feature's are buggy.Also remember that this is not the final version of the game, many things will come and go, betweeked, nerfed and buffed as time goes on. NOW GO TAKE OVER THE UNIVERSE!!!!

its a very good game for early access. I have one complaint though. Whenever iI get back from a battle my guns and vehicles are all gone. I dont have enough bluedust to keep remaking them. I'm not sure if this is supposed to happen, but it's really quite a hassle.

This would be a much better game if it didn't feel like you were constantly grinding. There is no campaign. You seem to be doing random stuff that tends to be a bit on the repetitive side. You'll select a hard planet to conquer. Then you'll be forced to battle against several easy ones to unlock being able to travel to a new planetary system. Then you'll repeat this process until you get a new spud or a new weapon upgrade. Although the store page says "cross-platform multiplayer," that's a bit misleading as there is no real-time online multiplayer. It's more like you can go against the ghosts of other player's defenses (with computer AI).
The tutorial is also too basic and doesn't explain much that you'll need to know. I had to figure out the upgrade system on my own. Even after unlocking new spuds & new weapons, you aren't told what they do. You just have to experiment and figure out what does what to which enemy. You're not even sure what enemies do until they start wrecking your world.
The good news is that the core gameplay is fun. Using new weapons and experimenting is generally fun although I couldn't figure out why sometimes they stopped working (bug or feature?). Luckily, I was able to find a combo of weapons that generally worked well together and didn't need to continue experimenting. Once you upgrade your Spuds a bit, they do quite a bit of damage on their own. As long as you survive the starting harrowing moments of defending your base, you'll more than likely be okay as long as you don't fall asleep at the turrets.
The gameplay can be get quite intense, especially when the enemy has slightly stronger units than yours that will keep you on your toes. Unfortunately, it soon goes back to grinding again. The only motivation keeping you moving forward is the idea of new weapons or spuds to unlock or maybe new enemies somewhere along the way.
The visuals & animations are nice overall, but the environments that you'll battle in are bland and there's only a few of them. The game ran smoothly but I did experience one issue where there's a fishbowl effect in the planetary system menu that is uncomfortable on the eyes. You can play standing or seated without any issues. While there is a bit of content here, it's because a lot is repeated. I would say this game is good value overall, but Final Assault VR is a much better version of this game.
Rate 6.5/10. It is fun at times in some battles, but it should be more fun than it actually is. Several matches are just boring. However, this game may be ideal for kids learning their first RTS type game or even for an adult who has never played an RTS game before.
