Spiritless Ltd.
Do you sometimes hear scratching, scraping or rumbling noises? And you are sure that those are neither rats nor termites nor stone martens – and definitely not your neighbor with his wife? Then you might have a poltergeist in your home.
But don’t panic. The most professional ghostbusting company is here to help you! We, the well-known Spiritless Ltd., will eliminate any evil ghost from any house.
“Spiritless Ltd.” is a weird story set in a monster occupied world, in which annoying ghosts are likely to be a part of your everyday world. Charles Stone is a ghostbuster working for Spiritless Ltd. and has Hank as his boss, who is barely capable of running the business.
As a complaint about a malfunctioning ghost trap is delivered to the office, Hank sends out his best (and only) employee to repair the faulty machine in an old mansion in the outer borough. As soon as he arrives the trouble is about to begin.

- All graphics hand-drawn

Ghostly Overtime.
Story:
You play as Charles Stone, a worker at Spiritless Ltd which sell ghost traps. His boss Hank informs us that there's a very unhappy customer on the outskirts of the town that bought a broken ghost trap and it's your job to go over there and fix it all while uncovering a dark secret of the house.
The story of Spiritless Ltd. is a very fun although a rather simplistic tale. The story is very much what I expect from a point and click game and it mostly emulates the style of old, classic adventure games pretty well, however it's not entirely perfect.
The first big issue is that the comedy is all over the place. Some jokes are pretty chuckle worthy, some are mixed bag and some just completely fall flat. It doesn't help that a lot of the jokes just drag on and on, like characters babbling about a certain thing, but it just quickly gets tiresome and you wish they would speak about something else.
One minor flaw is that the story is also pretty poorly placed. A good chunk of the game is just you trying to fix the ghost trap and then suddenly, in the last hour of the game it just completely 180's to something entirely else which is total tonal whiplash.
Graphics:
The art style of Spiritless Ltd. is honestly it's biggest highlight. I love the art direction, the character designs, the backgrounds, the environments it's all top notch stuff and everything is hand drawn too. I really wish there were more locations to explore as the mansion does get tiresome as a location, but it's genuinely great stuff so there's really not many negatives here from me.
Audio:
The music is also pretty decent, there's not much of it as there's only a handful of tracks, but they provide some decent background noise while you're exploring around and solving puzzles. The sound effects are also pretty decent, although nothing incredibly special.
Something I want to point out, that when I started playing the characters don't speak (as in there's no english voice acting) The game was completely silent and that's fine, there's plenty of games that don't have any voice acting, but in the case of Spiritless Ltd, there's german voice acting as the developers are German. I highly implore that even if you're not fluent in German, play with the original voice acting enabled, it does make the game feel a bit more lively.
Gameplay:
Spiritless Ltd. is in every sense a classic point and click adventure game. You know the drill, walk around your environments, talk to people, collect items and then use them to solve puzzles. So I guess let's cut to the gist and talk about the most important aspect which is the puzzles.
The game is structured in a chapter style and each progressing chapter gets much harder puzzle wise. The first few chapters are mostly easy, you're quickly going to understand what you need to do, while there are some bonus steps you need to take to solve them, you'll quickly catch on the games logic.
However once you reach Chapter 3, certain puzzles are incredibly obnoxious as the logical leaps you need to take to figure out what needs to be done is quite insane. I had to resort to a guide a few times and every time I was stumped even after reading as there was no way I could have ever figured that without tons of trial and error.
Also one minor nitpick of mine is that the game uses the style of using specific actions to use something. So for example you have to click the button use before using an item, instead of look or something else. It's been a staple in the genre and It's not much of problem, I still find that slightly annoying as I have a tendency to forget that it exists and then just messing up using items, cause I clicked the wrong option.
Final Verdict:
Spiritless Ltd. is a fun point and click romp, that while does have some flaws I found myself having a good time. If you're a fan of the genre, this is definitely one you should put on your radar. So go fix those traps and bust some ghosts.
Final Rating:
7/10
Pros:
+ Art Style is great, from character designs to environments
+ Story is charming
+ Some decent puzzles
Cons:
- Later chapter puzzles have insane logical leaps
- Some jokes drag on forever
- Poorly paced
