Spaera
SPAERA is a head-to-head puzzle fighting game, using an unique match-3 cascading mechanic as its core system. The world of SPAERA is heavily inspired by characters, gameplay and themes from games that we loved to play as we were growing up. We’ve created a roster of eight original characters that you can select, each with his or her own individual story. Players can battle the computer in the game’s campaign mode, or against live opponents in local and online matchmaking.
HOW TO PLAY
Players choose a unique character as their avatar, each with four of their own unique spells that can vary from Attack types to Protection types. Once the game begins, Players receive a continuous stream of puzzle pieces that are arranged in different color and shape configurations. Players are then tasked to match 3 or more of the same color blocks in order to trigger a clearing response. When clearing is initiated, any color on the active puzzle piece that is not the same colors as the cleared ones will cascade downwards on the board, enabling setups for complex combos and chains. There is also a power meter that will increase as you clear blocks or obtain and clear special block types that enable the player to issue magic spells to either support their own board or attack their opponent. The first person to force their opponent to have nowhere else to place their puzzle piece wins the match.
SPAERA FEATURES
Our lead artist and his team are amazing. Seriously, check out the screenshots for yourselves. All graphics and animations were hand drawn! We like to think of SPAERA as something that everyone can enjoy; it’s pretty easy to pick up, but you can add a lot of depth to your strategy. In many ways, SPAERA represents a mashup of a lot of the games that we love: games that you can just pick up and play by yourself or with friends without too much fuss. It’s fun, quick, and easy, just like a favorite snack. Head-To-Head multiplayer with server supported Matchmaking, Ranks, and Ladders enables endless fun and depth. We are trying to build a community of people that can be positive and enthusiastic about playing with us and each other, and hopefully help us to continue develop more games that everyone can enjoy.
WHO ARE WE?
Blazing Orb is founded by a pair of coders that have always been gamers at heart with huge love for RPGs, platformers, side-scrollers, fighting games, and puzzle-strategy games. SPAERA is our attempt to pay homage to all the influences and good times that we’ve had growing up playing these games, and hopefully be able to pay forward all the fun to others.

Just some early-access notes; no actual review for now.
Battle-tetris with magic, but no tutorial. Much easier for me to play on a controller due to not knowing the key bindings.
Eight characters to choose from, each with four spells unique to them. Some of the spells you cast actually HELP your opponent, which I don't get at all.
The game has potential, so I'm really hoping that the devs finish it. In the current state, not worth the price point, but it's worth playing if you have it and are a Tetris-lover.
Fun fact: It took me an hour of game time before I had my first win. ;D

A surprisingly fun and challenging puzzle game.
I admit it took me a while before I felt like I actually understood how to really play this (and I had to rely on a guide cause there's no tutorial) but once I got my bearings things became pretty exciting. There's a lot of strategic thinking involved, since you have to think ahead on your moves to make combos, decide when and which magic spell to use, and keep an eye on what your opponent is doing. Plus all the characters and abilities allow for a nice variety and versatility in your offensive/defensive approach in each match.
It's still Early Access so it feels bare bones at the moment, but the core mechanic is solid enough to make this game wothwhile. Even with no story mode and a tiny online community I still enjoyed myself a lot.

Absolutely fantastic puzzle game that is extremely challenging. Once you understand the game you will realise you need to be thinking about the next piece just as much as the current one.
I really love this game & am looking forward to mastering it when I have more time. If you want a match game with a twist look no further. Definitely give it a chance!

Spaera is honestly pretty good, it doesn't have a tutorial and it's a little buggy, but these small details can be ironed out through early access. The base gameplay as it is is pretty great, it was confusing at first but after looking at the controls and fiddling around for about an hour I got the jist of it. The game is fun and it looks great. The game also has some very solid music, which is always a plus. Overall, the problems I have with the game are entirely things that will likely be ironed out before release, and the game itself is a fun, enjoyable experience.

The gameplay loop is very satisfying, especially the aspect of using spells at opportune moments to absolutely destroy the opponent. There's just a lot of rough edges like style inconsistencies in the menus and the sounds in the game being absolutely terrible (I assume they're still placeholder sounds).
Has potential, but I have no idea if it'll ever be finished.

A well made tetris-like game.
In fact its more like puyo-puyo/columns tetris where you have to match at least 3 of the same colour. Maybe better.
Theres multiplayer and story mode.
You will play against an opponent who will try to ruin your board with his attacks.
You can attack him too after building mana.
Very fun game and fluid.

Amazing community, intuitive gameplay and promising mechanics. I wholeheartedly recommend anyone to try it out. Goes straight to the nostalgia-bone of Tetris Battle Gaiden fans, but with an updated view and graphics. Fantastic experience that you can sink endless hours into.
