Fight through a world destroyed by Dr. Eggman and a powerful new villain in Sonic Forces, the new fast-paced action platformer from the team that brought you Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations. Sonic Forces lets you speed through rolling ruined landscapes as Modern Sonic, catapult past perilous platforms as Classic Sonic, and use powerful new gadgets as your own Custom Hero Character.

go into the options, turn off the radio chatter. while playing skip all of the cutscenes, and try to get all of the collectibles. This improves the enjoyment factor of the game ten-fold. You can also try only skipping some of the cutscenes, to occasionally be rewarded with the out-of-context ramblings of a cast of one-dimensional anthropomorphic characters deep in the trenches of world war 3.

Steam has to finally add option to make neutral reviews.
This game has a lot of flaws, but they really tried and from this point i just hope that Sega and Sonic Team will improve what they made with Forces (still needs to be done: better characters, less plot holes, less nostalgia) instead of creating something like Lost World 2.
Pros:
+Amazing soundtrack, obviously
+Step in better direction from Lost World
+Creation of your own character
+30 levels and few special ones
+Eggman is actually smart
+Some new neat gameplay mechanics
+Nicely done comic-like feeling to the game
+Double boost mechanic that can be interesting if they improve it
+Really good conclusion to the whole story
Cons:
-...but story feels rushed, so it undermines that conclusion
-Takes 3-4 hours to finish
-Levels are only 1-3 minutes long
-Classic Sonic and levels with him don't fit here at all
-Classic Sonic is from another dimension, ruining this way almost non-existing story of Sonic Generations
-Death Egg fits this game, Chemical Plants could get a pass, but Green Hills should be thrown away
-Most characters are irrelevant
-Waaaaaay too many plot holes
-We're thrown into the game with barely any introduction to anything
-Silver, who lives 200 years into the future, is here for some reason
-Tails is a coward who can't do anything on his own
-Most boss fights are boring
-Most levels barely have any additional routes you can take
-Infinite's potential as a character was wasted
-Wisps are getting annoying to see in every game
-Not really that much to do after you've completed the game
This game tried, but has a lot of wasted potential. I could recommend it for max 50% of the base price if you're a Sonic fan or don't mind cons i've listed. Ideally waiting for at least 75% sale would be worth buying it.

To be completely honest, I bought Sonic Forces with the intention of it being a bad game. I've seen all the reviews, I've seen gameplay, I was ready to despise this game. Ironically enough, that's not what happened. I haven't completed the game yet but I've actually enjoyed my time with the game. Despite what others may say, I think both modern and classic Sonic control well and I think the OC character isn't half bad either. The story is meh but it's a Sonic game so who cares? The main reason why I desire to finish this game is because I actually find it fun. Compared to games like Sonic Generations, I find the story intriguing despite the continuity of it and I find the stages (for the most part) fun. The OST is great and the boss fights aren't half bad either.
I wouldn't recommend this game if you're a hardcore Sonic fan in the sense that the story HAS to be perfect and Sonic (whether modern or classic) HAS to be perfect with its controls. I would recommend this game though if you are a Sonic fan and you're just looking for a pretty damn good time.

If you don't take this game too seriously, there's some fun to be had. Avatar creation is pretty fun to mess around in and the soundtrack is honestly one of my favourite things about the game. Levels are really short and getting high ranks is at times embarrassingly easy. And that's on the so-called "Hard Mode".
I think the biggest con about this game is that there was potential to add so much more based on the story and tone of the game. Like maybe a hub world where your avatar can talk to the various Sonic characters and do some unique side missions.
While I recognize that objectively, this is a pretty mediocre game, I had a blast playing it because the gameplay was fun to me and the story was adorable in how campy and serious it's trying to take itself. Plus it was a short game, and I'm fine with that.
TLDR: If you're a Sonic fan, you'll get more out of it and have some fun. Anyone else, ehhhh it's a big maybe. And at least it'll be a short playthrough.

I expected a lot worse. It's a really fun game. Worth the $10 I payed for it... not worth $40. This game plays similarly to Sonic Generations, but it is more automated. Some stuff is randomly broken; for example the quick step maneuver is often misaligned with the path you're running on, and they took away drifting, like, seriously? When the game is working though - which is most of the time - it's really fun... even chillingly awesome at times (I'm a dork). Took four hours to complete while doing the extra handful of distractions.

It’s a Sonic game rated PEGI 7. Don’t expect it to mesmerize you with its sophisticated gameplay, stunning visuals or deep story. Most of the criticism comes from the people who’ve simply set their expectations too high.
Let’s face it, no Sonic game will top Sonic Generations anytime soon because Generations provided what the fans always wanted: a complete 3d remake of the classic levels. But Sonic Team cannot always play the nostalgia card, the series has to move forward instead of being stuck in the past. Sonic Forces is that step forward, an awkward step, but a step in the right direction nonetheless.
This title delivered what a proper Sonic game should, a non-linear gameplay with no less than 2 ways to complete each stage with the possibility of rushing through everything in around a minute, and the new avatar system offered a breath of fresh air. Character creation is probably not a big deal to some, but when is the last time we saw Sonic game change its formula in any meaningful way? I, for one, am happy to see Sonic Team trying out new things.
Could the avatar system have been treated better? Yes. Could the online features have been improved? Absolutely, along with some other things. But in the end, it is a casual game and should be treated as such. It is not a game you play fulltime to engage yourself; it is a game to help you relax or recharge before you dive into some other major title and it does its job perfectly.
Is it worth 40$? Unless you are a Sonic fan, probably not. But if you grab it on sale, there is nothing to complain about.

It's not a bad game at all. Casually speaking, I think it's a good game.
As a Sonic fan though, this game could have been a lot better.
This is my second time playing through this game. I have 100%ed EVERYTHING on the Switch, and now back at it again on PC.
I can say that this game is fun for what it is.
If you are a casual person, I think this game can be enjoyed for what it is worth.
If you are a Sonic fan, you should give it a go regardless. However disappointed you may be for the missed potential, it's still an experience regardless.
Some positives include the Avatar, for one. This game can be done in a quick few hours, but has plenty of completion content to keep you in if interested. The music is also a banger, never a miss among Sonic music.
The only real negatives are the missed potential in the story, and the physics of Classic Sonic.
Again, for what it is, the game is good. As a Sonic fan, it's no where near the best. However, it's not a terrible game.
