Sniper Elite 4

Best Sniper game hands down. Kinda crazy to me just how much better this one is than 3 and 5. If you're only gonna play one Sniper Elite game, then make it this one!

Tried to be silent, professional snipers. Ended up launching grenades at seagulls and missing 70% of our shots. We do tag enemies — usually after we’ve already shot them.
One of us crawls through tall grass like a ghost. The other falls off a cliff trying to "take a shortcut." The game gives you tactical tools — we use them to accidentally blow up trucks we’re hiding behind.
Still, there's no feeling like syncing a perfect double kill… followed by one of us immediately stepping on our own landmine.
11/10 – A sniper game for people who should not be snipers. Highly recommended.

I’ve played the Sniper Elite games in a pretty strange order mostly because Sniper Elite 5 is often cheaper than 4 for some reason. I started with the third game, then played the second, moved on to the fifth, and now finally the fourth. Honestly, they’ve all been great. Sniper Elite 5 is still my favourite overall, but I can definitely see why many people argue that the maps in Sniper Elite 4 are better. I don’t completely disagree both games feature absolutely stunning environments but playing the fifth entry really made me want to come back and experience this one after being so impressed by the series’ level design. What I really love about Sniper Elite 4 (and 5) is the approach to mission structure. The maps feel very Hitman like in how open they are, giving you a ton of freedom in how you tackle objectives and in what order you choose to do them. You’re rarely forced down a single path, and experimentation is constantly rewarded. The Italian setting also adds a lot of variety, with coastal towns, vineyards, ruins, and military installations all feeling distinct and memorable.

Gameplay is obviously the star here. Whether you prefer careful sniping, full stealth, or going in guns blazing, all playstyles are viable and genuinely fun. Compared to other entries, Sniper Elite 4 feels especially forgiving if you decide to get loud, which makes it more approachable without sacrificing challenge. Enemy AI is solid, reacting well to sound and movement, and the sound masking system remains one of the series’ best mechanics. The X-ray kill cams never get old equal parts hilarious and horrifying but when you’re on a roll, it’s easy to skip them just to keep the momentum going, especially during tense moments where you’re lining up multiple shots before enemies move out of position. Add in strong co op support, excellent pacing, and maps that encourage replayability, and it’s easy to see why many fans still consider Sniper Elite 4 one of the high points of the series.

This game lets you slow down and carefully plan how to eliminate the fascist squad guarding those crucial documents you need. Moving stealthily through the beautifully crafted, natural-looking environments, you’re free to approach each mission however you like, rather than being forced down a rigid, linear path.
The stunning visuals, immersive landscapes, and atmospheric audio pull you right into the world. The tension rises as Karl’s heartbeat races when enemies hear your shots and start searching for you. The way the German and Italian voices of approaching enemies blend seamlessly with the sounds of rustling trees and chirping birds adds another layer of realism. On top of that, the dynamic soundtrack shifts with the action—building suspense when you're hidden and intensifying as you sprint for cover under enemy fire.
The mission objectives—retrieving documents, blowing up bridges, and more—stay engaging because there are multiple ways to complete them. You can go in guns blazing or sneak through undetected like a ghost. As I played more, I discovered even deeper tactical elements, like using mines, decoys, and distractions to mislead enemies and shift their focus.
The only real annoyance I had was with the auto-save system, which sometimes saves right after I’ve been exposed, leaving me scrambling for safety every time I reload. Also, the AI can be a bit odd in alert mode, with enemies occasionally sliding strangely while running for cover or taking cover in bizarre spots.
And of course, the slow-motion x-ray kill cam? Absolutely satisfying after landing a perfect long-range shot.

On the Steam Deck, Sniper Elite 4 is a dream. The game runs smoothly with stable frame rates and great visual fidelity even on medium-high settings. Load times are snappy, controls feel tight, and the layout adapts well to the Deck's inputs. Even better—it's verified on Steam, meaning no tweaks are required to jump in and start sniping.

Whether you're on the couch, in bed, or on the go, Sniper Elite 4 makes for a thrilling portable experience. The Steam Deck’s screen brings out the game’s vibrant Mediterranean settings, and battery life holds up surprisingly well, making it easy to lose hours in sniper mode without needing a charge.

Still a good game to come back to, plenty of seasoned players who have the newer games still choose to play SE4!

awesome game just wish for more missions or for the season pass to go on sale so i can shoot hitler in his balls
