Shadowrain
Wake up,
please
Alone in the darkness, all memories faded into obscurity, you wake up in a small apartment. Looking through the windows of Neo-Tokyo’s Highrise E5671, you see the city. The city, fallen completely silent.
A fragile light appears from the darkness and you hear a soft cry,
“You are awake, finally!”
It’s your personal assistant, an artificial intelligence named ‘Yui’, your only companion during your journey as you venture through the uncanny, eerie pathways of Neo-Tokyo.
A groan in the shadows, searching for you.
You are not alone. You are being followed. Something unnatural is catching up on you, and it is getting closer. hide

Interesting 2d indie-horror game in a dystopian universe. Beautifull pixel-look. Good story. Permadeath system, i am not sure, if that is a good idea. Some button-mashing sections, which i do not like. But for the ones who have no problem with that, it is definitely a good buy for the price.

This is a tough one. There are a lot of things I like, but an equal number of things I dislike. In all honesty, this game was difficult to get into and I almost dropped it after a few frustrating hours.
Right off the bat I need to mention It's biggest flaw is how difficult it can be to navigate. I understand it is a budget game, but it really highlights this fact when the backgrounds lack variety and use the same few assets-- makes it VERY easy to get turned around, especially since there is a map that is less-than-helpful in telling you your position. This I think will be a HUGE turnoff for players and I can completely see why. For a game with a primary mechanic of exploration, it's important that you provide a good backdrop to give players a memorable visual setting to experience. Shadowrain tries, but ultimately the repetition makes it hard to get a grasp on your surroundings and drags you a bit out of the immersion when it starts to feel like you're going in circles.
This aside, the story and setting of the game is great. It's a chilling futuristic sci-fi tale of isolation and artificial intelligence. The primary mechanic in the game is a run-and-hide style enemy that lurks in the dark with you, it gives me some real Alien: Isolation vibes in that regard-- a minor complaint here is that I wish the creature itself tied a bit more into the themes and story that are otherwise present, it's an effective threat but ultimately feels a little disconnected from the bulk of what makes this game great- your Artificial Intelligence helper, Yui. The whole AI helper bit isn't wholly original of an idea, but well utilized here to give you a curious relationship with Yui and enough of a pull to keep me interested.
I simply wish that it was easier to stay immersed in the games interesting story, ironically the most invested I got was during the secret ending, where there are no aspects of the games established mechanics up to that point present.
Can't say much else about the game without spoilers. This won't be for everyone, it is admittedly difficult to get over some of the glaring issues, but if you can overlook this and make it past the flaws, there's a really solid foundation and interesting enough story here. Very frustrating as I think with a bit more focus, more variety, tighter mechanics-- Shadowrain would have been a really big hit. Ultimately hard to hold this against it as again, it is a budget game.

Shadowrain - TL;DR -
Amazing game for this price. Story-wise it discusses interesting thoughts about AI, Evolution and Mankind. Gameplay brings a true hardcore challenge into the horror-puzzle genre with permadeath. BUT DON'T GIVE UP AFTER 1 TRY! Finish the game to enjoy the complex story to its fullest extent.
-------------------------------------
First of all, this game brings up some pretty intense thinking material. If you ever finished SOMA or Deus Ex, the story in this game might intrigue you. For such a low price, the story exceeds every expectation I had.
Secondly, the permadeath. IT'S A HASSLE BUT DON'T GIVE UP. Try again, keep maps of the levels (I used paint lol) and keep track of where you can find things to try again if you get softlocked through death.
It had a good mix between intense puzzle & danger-dodging and story parts where you would argue with an AI about the meaning of all kinds of things. Played on Hard mode, regretting it 100 times but it did make the game a bit more spicy.
All in all, they game really brings a new perspective with the fear of permadeath together with you, the AI, and the dangers lurking throughout the levels. Stay strong, keep trying if you get locked, the story really makes up for this somewhat hassle of an experience (though I didn't mind to work through the challenges and make it to the end).
8.5 / 10 - Greatly recommended!

Started playing this and have to say I am impressed. Love the style this goes with as I don't think there are enough cyberpunk horror in general. The controls are responsive so no arguments with that, atmosphere is great and is possibly one of the most unique games I have played in a while.
If you want to see my first play of the game check out my video here
Thank you also to the devs who gave me the chance to play this awesome game. I hope to see more from them using this formula of cyberpunk horror.

My impression of the game is quite nice! I like all the sci-fi themes, so I may be biased) Pros and cons are mentioned below!
Check out the gameplay here:
Pros:
1. The game has mystery. I really like it. It's catchy and you want to know more!
2. YUI is a really interesting character. Her dialogues are deeper than they seem at first.
3. I like that you can not fight. That adds to the horror aspect.
4. I also liked your energy and mental health bars. That is really cool that you have some energy refills hidden in the scenery. I mean they are pretty obvious. But nothing will glow and shine to let you know that you can interact with the thingy.
Cons:
1. A bit too dark even with the flshlight. That is good for the atmosphere but that also makes the player desoriented.
2. The rooms are quite the same. I mean the ARE different but when you have to go through lots of them you get REALLY confused!
3. The map does not show your current location. That adds to the whole confused and desoriented thingy.
BUT I MAY be a topographic cretin)
Overall, I had a nice experience and I want to try the game again when I have more time (the game is longer than I thought) and that is a PLUS!
