Rhythm Doctor
Save lives with your spacebar!
Rhythm Doctor is a rhythm game in a world where defibrillating patients’ hearts in sync with their heartbeats has healing properties. Slam your spacebar in perfect time on the 7th beat, and they might just come out okay. But beware – every patient has unique illnesses based on complex music theory: polyrhythms, hemiolas, irregular time signatures…if you don’t know what they mean, don’t worry. Rhythm Doctor is designed to make you learn music and rhythm theory without even realising it!
- 20+ handmade levels, each with their own story.
- Every level introduces a different concept of rhythm theory in an accessible way
- A large cast of doctors and patients feature in an overarching, character-centric storyline
- Play the story solo or grab a friend for drop-in drop-out local multiplayer throughout the whole campaign!
- Robust level editor to make, share, and play community levels! Use your own music, place notes snapped to the beat, and use 50+ different visual effects and backgrounds
- Challenging “Night Shift” versions of each level for the brave
(Note: 2P mode only works locally. Online 2P via Remote Play is enabled for this game, but it does not work that well right now due to varying latency)
Rhythm Doctor features flashing lights and colors. Please use caution if you have experience with epilepsy or any of its symptoms.

Rhythm Doctor is a transcendental experience. This game is loosely modeled after Nintendo's Rhythm Heaven series but goes so much further in both premise, gameplay, and accessibility than Nintendo has to date. The premise is simple: you use one button to follow the rhythm cues, but the cues get more complicated and layer on top of each other over time... pretty much until you're a music theory god.
While the minute-to-minute gameplay is addictive, the character writing, chart design and set pieces are what truly make this game shine. The game is subdivided into "acts", and in each one are 4-5 levels with front and back sides to enjoy. However, you also are introduced to a new pair of characters and experience the game through a series of cutscenes--many of which are weaved into the gameplay itself. Crazy, I know, but in that time you really do start to feel for and care for the characters introduced.
While the final act of the game isn't out at the time of this review. I'm counting down the days to the 1.0 release and what I can only assume is the conclusion of the story.
Rhythm Doctor is a must-play for rhythm game fans, but its accessibility and gradual introduction to rhythm concepts make this an apt pick for those who maybe haven't gotten into rhythm games before too. Other reviews mention that you can probably play the game blind, and I tend to agree.
On top of all of this, Rhythm Doctor features a level editor and extensive community support through custom levels. I'm not a charter, but the few levels I downloaded through Steam Workshop were insane testaments to how powerful this editor is.
On a personal note, I picked this game up due to its rave reviews without watching trailers or much previous research at all. I don't regret going in blind and I think this is probably the best way to go into this game.
If you're on the fence, this game is well worth your time and money. I loved this game so much I bought it two more times for friends. Rhythm Doctor has shaped up into one of my favorite gaming experiences of the year and I'm looking forward to many more hours with it in the future.

You know a rhythm game's good when you can play it without watching the visual cues. This game succeeds perfectly at that, even though it's almost impossible trying not to look when the game's window is moving around in every way possible, trying to make you lose the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 rhythm in your head. The gameplay is fun, but you certainly need to have a good sense of rhythm to enjoy the beautiful songs and in the meantime trying to press the keyboard every seventh beat. I think that the only bad thing about this game is that it's pretty short (i am at the start of act 5). Other than that, it's a great game I highly recommend

Im normaly not a person thats very emotional, but at the end of this game i was very close to tearing up.
Ive worked half a year as a nurse in an hospital as part of my Freiwiligen sozialen jahr (its a german thing where you can do a Social internship for a year and get payed by the state for it). And this game just hit way to close to home. It really manages to show the very sad part of being a nurse. That your just way to overworked, you really want to give every patient enough time to feel like hes taken care of but whit the understaffing going on you just cant offer that. This is also one of the reasons why i only did half a year as a nurse and not a complete year. Because the fact that no matter how hard we work that we never will be able to give our patients enough time to make them feel like we really cared about them just broke me mentaly a little bit. And seeing that in this game just brought back the memorys and just hit me difrtently than other games.
Story time over :). About the gameplay:
The gameplay is really good and the game manages to really suprise you again and again whit how creativly they use these mechanics.
So all in all i can really recomend everyone that even only has a slight interests in rhytm games to get this game its easily worth the 15 bucks :)

This is genuinely one of the best games I've ever played in my life, like not exaggerating. This is up there for me with games like Portal/Portal2, Hat in Time, Mouthwashing, and botw/totk. I can't properly describe how much I love this concept, god I wish this were a real thing because it would literally help hospital staff so much and it would also give jobs to more disabled people like me. Anyways, I can't recommend it enough, PLEASE PLAY THIS GAME!! Lmao great stuff and I wish nothing but success for the developers and I can't wait for the rest to come out.

Holy shit, the new acts and finale are absolute cinema. This is one of the best rhythm-story games of all time with how well the songs are incorporated into the story. The game starts out a bit slow with acts 1-4 but act 5 is where the writing gets amazing, some of the later boss stages are an experience for sure. Overall, great story, great gameplay(very creative for a one button rhythm game, considerably better than adofai imo, rhythm heaven inspiration makes this super fun), great and memorable songs, amazing visual direction with some of the vfx in acts 5+, easy 10/10.
