Rain World

You are a slugcat. The world around you is full of danger, and you must face it – alone. Separated from your family in a devastating flood, you must hunt for food and shelter between terrifying torrential downpours that threaten to drown all life. Climb through the ruins of an ancient civilization, evade the jaws of vicious predators, and discover new lands teeming with strange creatures and buried mysteries. Find your family before death finds you! Inspired by the simplicity and aesthetics of 16-bit classics, this survival platformer requires fast-paced sneaking, both upon your own prey and past the jaws of hungry predators. Each ravenous foe in your path will be cunning, vicious and always on the hunt – eager to sink their teeth into you, or even each other. As a small, soft slugcat you must to rely on stealth and wit rather than force: learn the ecosystem and turn their strengths to your advantage. Maybe then you can survive… Rain World!

Rain world is a masterpiece.
There I said it, and now may I add that rain world...
Is an absolutely ***** game ?
Yeah I know, contradictory isn't it ? I have more than 200 hours on this game, told you it was a banger and yet I also think it's absolute horse ****.
Well, let me explain. First off, Rain world transcends the idea of a video game, creating a whole ecosystem as it's core and a wonderful AI which thinks and fights the player in different ways each time you're confronted by different enemies. You're a prey, a little animal that is around the bottom of the food chain, but what's pretty nice (and also not nice at all) is that you've got the opportunity to be mauled to death by a lizard, electrocuted to death by centipedes, devoured by big running birds with scissors-like beaks.
And yet you always come back, to a cycle of perpetual pain and survival, where each moment could mean death. Sure, you can get kids, but if they die, they'll be out of your cycles forever, separated from you until they themselves die, and they will survive again, and again, until they reach the end of this unending ouroboros.
Anyways, the whole fun of rain world is going in blind and getting your ass kicked, so sure, this game might not be for you at all, but please, please do not open the wiki and spoil yourself.
Discover this world by yourself, seek knowledge, follow the little weird wiggly guys and maybe you'll find something.
By the way did I mention that the more you advance in the campaigns the more it gets confusing ?
Anyways, to the bravest that will reach the end of this tormenting dark souls like game, congrats. Otherwise well done, you tried your best. Might wanna relaunch this game in five years, check what you missed.

Look to the Moon et 5P dans mon coeur <3

This game is a work of art, and I'll try to tell everything I need to about it in an objective and non-spoiler way :
First of all, this game is HARD. It's punishing, not always fair, and very frustrating. But guess what ; that's what the game is all about. Rain World tries to use AIs (these ones don't need 2L of water every second though) to simulate a realistic ecosystem. Every creature and plant has its own objective, habits and a unique way to kill you ; I honestly think the game is amazingly good at making a convincing world, because the difficulty comes from this whole ecosystem. Everything wants to kill you, and in nature, no one tries to play "fair". If something is hungry, it'll hunt to you to death just to eat you.
This complex food chain system is one of the most incredible things I ever saw in a video game, and I really want people to discover it as I did, even if it means getting brutally murdered 10 times in a row by some kind of lizard that was hiding in a wall.
Next, I wanna talk about the storyline. The lore of the game is incredibly complex, and fans have been trying to make sense of it for years. But how do I know the lore is good ? I... felt it. Rain World doesn't take your hand in any way ; the gameplay is barely explained, and every piece of lore is a riddle. I think it's pretty cool that the game just shows you stuff, but I understand that some people might not like it. Even the guide that's supposed to help you find your way in this complex world (by the way, the map is genuinely gigantic) is almost useless. The whole game consists of you just playing with stuff, experimenting and understanding the environment ; I personnally love how I flet like a kid again every time i discovered the use of the item i just found on the ground : "Wait, I can do that ?!" is one of the coolest feelings in gaming for me. There is no kind of level-up in this game, the only thing that upgrades is YOUR knowledge about the game and how it works.
If you like punishing "platformer" games, discovering complex worlds, niche gameplay techs and having fun without understanding anyhting, this game is for you. If not, maybe give it a try playing "Monk" (which is basically the easier mode of the game).
So yeah, Rain World is cool :D
