This is the third time I've purchased this game and I'm about to get all achievements on it for the third time. The original I bought on the PS3, imported, because I was under the impression that this would never come stateside, given the reputation of Puyo back then. Then I bought it once again once it was localized, both on console and later on Steam. It's really wild looking back over a decade later and seeing how bizarre it seems, to me, that Sega would take a chance on localizing a title like this...but I'm really glad that they did. I've played it plenty solo and with friends and I've never really heard complaints other than someone getting wiped out by others but that's part of it.
The sequel, in any capacity, is more of the same and not really all that necessary to purchase if you're wanting to find a way to save some money on practically the same game, even with 2S. A few extra modes, characters and another storyline but that's about it. The core game started here and it's held up to the test of time ever since.
If you're a fan of Tetris but you've never really gotten an idea of what Puyo was, up until now, you might want to consider taking a look at this title. It doesn't necessarily give you everything you need to become a master at the game but it's as good a start as any while also treading what is more familiar territory in the West with Tetris. A lot of fun and definitely worthy of any puzzle fan's time.

I may suck at both Tetris and Puyo Puyo, but that won't stop me from appreciating every other aspect of the game from artstyle, to music, to the comedy that is the campaign's story and its characters.
