Ich habe Pumpkin Jack wegen der Halloween-Stimmung gekauft. Das Spiel ist relativ simpel gehalten und bietet als Plattformer eine schöne Atmosphäre. Allerdings gibt es ein paar ärgerliche Punkte: Wenn man an einem Checkpoint speichert und das Spiel beendet, verliert man beim Neustart oft den Fortschritt und hat dann 0 Collectibles gesammelt. Da die Levels recht lang sind, spiele ich meist in kleinen Abschnitten – und dieser Fortschrittsverlust trübt das Spielerlebnis.
Auf dem Steam Deck läuft das Spiel außerdem nur bei stabilen 30 FPS. Zu Beginn erreichte ich noch 45 FPS, doch nach kurzer Zeit pendelte es sich bei 30 ein. Gekauft habe ich es im Sale für 2,99 €, und ich habe es noch nicht ganz durchgespielt. Insgesamt ist Pumpkin Jack ein schöner Plattformer, aber kein Meisterwerk – eher ein nettes Spiel für zwischendurch.

If you don’t count smoke breaks and replaying two levels to get all achievements, it took me about 4 hours to beat the game. With achievements, it was around 5 hours total. I’m not sure what the regular price is, but the €6 I paid felt totally worth it.
The game has a charming style, fun gameplay, cool boss ideas, and a few funny moments sprinkled throughout. I really enjoyed playing it, but once you’ve unlocked everything, there’s not much left to do. If a few hours of solid fun are worth the money to you, go for it.
Movement feels smooth and responsive. Weapon handling, on the other hand, is a bit clunky. You’ll probably stick to either the latest weapon you picked up or the one with the best hit pattern and speed for your playstyle. Not all of them feel satisfying to use.
There are definitely some negatives, but the most annoying one for me was the breakable decorations scattered everywhere. They usually drop health, but occasionally flames shoot out instead. If you’re low on health and accidentally hit one, it can kill you. Or worse, you break one on a climbable structure and now have to run through fire to proceed.
Just a heads-up: I’d say this is clearly a game aimed at younger players – probably from around 6 years old up to teenagers. It’s pretty linear and simple, which makes it easy to enjoy but not very deep.
Overall: A charming little game, worth a few bucks and a good dose of F.U.N.™ for your first playthrough.

Glanzleistung eines spaßigen Plattformers mit einigen Kampfelementen. Für 4 Stunden voller Action und schöner Grafik lohnt sich das Spiel auch für den Vollpreis, im Sale auf jeden Fall einen Kauf wert.

Perfect for getting into Halloween mood. At some points it is tricky and requires a few tries to get to know the mechanics but nothing too difficult.
All in all great fun for the 7 hours it took me to finish it.
