Psycho Wolf
~~~~~~~~~~~
Psycho wolf is a fun action-adventure indie title. Set in a medieval environment, Psycho wolf’s story revolves around a greedy wolf and his thirst for revenge.
Although not yet complete, with quite a few issues, Psycho Wolf is shaping up to be a fine casual game with a lot of fun elements added to the mix.
Plot: This is a tale of a greedy Wolf who cooked a batch of fake gold to trick the residents of the town into buying them?
As the gold color starts to fade, the residents become outraged and demand the Wolf be caught and sent to jail. And so he is.
After spending so long in jail, the wolf started devouring the fake bars. To his surprise, he became aggressive and strong, and managed to break free from the confines of the jail.
Now he seeks revenge upon those who put him in jail.
Gameplay: Psycho Wolf brings a simple yet fun gameplay style with its mouse left and right for camera turn, WASD movement control, Space to attack and I for inventory interaction.
For the most part, Psycho Wolf’s basic controls work just fine, but in the long run, I feel that it lacks greater control over its main character.
As the game is still in its very early stage, I am impressed at the direction the game is headed. The base concept is simple; find, follow, and kill the residents of the town, and while doing so, seek and kill selected targets from the mission tab, which also includes certain other tasks.
As you find and creep up to your targets, each target will show how many hits they can take. Killing them looks easy, but it’s really not. Psycho Wolf is slow; hence you will have to time your movement just right to intersect the target. As the target sees you coming, or after the first blow, either they will attack head-on and will run after you or they will run for their life!
You can also create and drop traps to intersect targets in-game from your inventory.
The biggest downside to the game currently is the lack of content, features and key binds to control existing features. As the game seems to slowly progress, I hope these issues get resolved.
Inventory and crafting system: The game is bringing in a simple inventory management system with hover over to pick up items by hitting ‘’I’’. Currently, the Inventory system only hosts a few items to carry, equip, and drop.
Also, there is a simple crafting system with a few options. To craft something, you will need to gather selected items. Currently, there are a few options to craft, such as rope, cammo, bag, etc.
World design: Simple, goofy, and cartoonish, with a colorful (but not too bright) selection from the color spectrum.
I really enjoyed the simplicity of the world and the art style. I see a lot of room for growth.
Music and sound effects: For the most part the sound effects are on par with the game and suits its theme just fine. But the music was poorly selected and got repetitive very fast. And the worst part is you cannot turn off the music without turning off the in-game volume.
For the most part, I’m impressed at where the game is heading; the concept is interesting and the plot is fun!
The game is obviously nowhere near completion, and I’m looking forward to future updates, which will hopefully bring much-needed fixes, content updates, new features, and a better control suite.
Positives:
+ Fun plot
+ Decent gameplay
+ Interesting world design
+ Well-designed character and NPCs
+ Interesting features
+ Simple inventory and crafting system
Negatives:
- Cannot change key binds
- Cannot turn off music without turning the volume off
- Screen tearing
- Quite a few bugs
- No controls to use present features
- Needs more content
The Psycho Wolf is out for revenge. Help him get those who have wronged him; the wolf will not stop his terror for anyone.
6/10
Good game. It's a bit like "Don't starve". We play as a wolf, which destroys a village with a variety of animals. Crafting, cartoon graphics, nice music, small price.
The game is not actually that bad as I originally thought. It is indeed pretty simple of a game, and I believe it can be a lot lot better, if the dev do a bit more polishing and add more RPG elements in it. The sound track is really good though. I played this game as a sort of stealth game, and the game’s difficulty does not change much throughout the whole game, but the length becomes longer. Takes about 2 - 3 hrs to complete the whole game normally, and if you are confident in your "stealth" skill then you might want to skip some levels to complete the game faster. Also, I really hope that there is an ending cinematic or some sort.
