I guess I am in the minority here but i enjoyed the story. It's basic anti-war but look at the world in 2025, mankind never learns.
Gameplay was fine since I played on easiest difficulty and I feel my reactiontime isn't as good as it was several years ago. I guess for people used to this kind of shmups normal difficulty should be used otherwise it would be too easy for them.
Sometimes the controlls frustrated me especially during the last 2 missions. It felt like I was floating through air like I was sliding across ice. Maybe playing it on 4k wasn't helping my lack of skill.
Nonetheless I can see how much passion went into this project with voiceacting, mission variation, presentation, really good OST... Just reminded me of games I really enjoyed back when I was playing PS1 games.
Graphics are budget and some voices sometimes sounded.. a bit amateurish. I don't care, a great labor of love by everyone involved.
Would really be interested in a proper sequel with similiar effort in story/presentation and a difficulty for noobs like me.

Reminds me of Zone of the Enders and some other underground cool mecha game that I used to play during 2007 or so.

This game caught my attention when I saw a flying mecha and many targets. As others have stated, the story is a little all over the place, but this game is not story centered, as it just allows to progress with a little narrative between stages.
The gameplay is fun! You have different machines that feel different to control and with noticeable firepower changes. The music is good. Difficulty can be adjusted from easy to a real challenge!

The best way to describe this game is as follows; If a Gundam-fanfic writer wanted to play Ace Combat but with Gundams. Most of the tropes of an almost classical Gundam story or mecha-story are here; Your protag is the super-mega-powerful but prototype mecha, wanes about needing to fight despite being in the very strong prototype mecha, and there's some pseudo-not-really explained psychic-like powers going on. You do though get to see the other side of the conflict via playing the other protag in her super-mega-powerful but experimental mecha, which is a neat concept, mostly seeing the other-side of a war, in these types of games.
Gameplay wise, I joked it was Ace Combat, and while partly true, it fits more describing a very looser version of Zone of Enders with cooldown abilities. In essence; You sort-of dogfight against other vehicles, mechas, even floating ships, and you weave past missiles and their bullets while firing your own lasers, bullets, not-funnels (laser drones that chase and attack whoever you targeted), and railguns. Unlike Ace Combat, you're stuck within the mecha the character is piloting at that moment in the story, and given there's multiple characters you'll be going from the super-duper prototypes to regular mechas.
But the overall take away should be; Is it fun? For the price and what it offers, it is fun if you enjoy this kind of stuff. The controls can be floaty at times and some levels and abilities are not made equal, but for an afternoon playable anime-romp it's not too bad. And if you really want to play more of this, there is an Endless-like mode akin to Project Wingman's Conquest mode, where the longer you survive the more money you get to buy the mechs you saw in the campaign, which include the ultra-rare-one-of-a-kind-mega trial mechas.

I can't complain. I got mine one sale pretty cheap.
It took a minute to get used to the controls but after a few minutes it's pretty easy to understand.
Makes me want to go find more mech games

Extremely Cheap Mech Game (In a Good Way)
I was expecting this game to be very mid, and I have to say, while graphics and presentation are not its strong suits, the gameplay is quite nice.
If you are a fan of Armored Core, Gundam, or even Ace Combat, Project Nimbus is well worth your time. The gameplay is rather simple, mainly focusing on constantly switching weapons to take down as many enemies as possible between reloads and flying around at ludicrous speeds, which never stops being fun. The gliding nature of the Battle Frames makes them a perfect combination of fighter jet and mobile suit, especially when using the game’s coolest feature: the cockpit view (which is fully rendered and changes between mech models). And I have to say, as a mecha fan, it definitely scratched that itch we get once in a while to play a game with giant robots.
I would like to finish this review by saying there is no reason not to buy this and support its developer. This game is dirt cheap, it’s fun, not too long, not too difficult, and for an indie game of its nature (let alone a mech game), it has above-average quality exactly where it needs to: the voice acting and gameplay (which, surprisingly enough, have a very unique feel compared to other games in the genre, especially when playing in first person).
This is a good, cheap mecha game well worth a playthrough, especially for its price.
