Review by Gaming Masterpieces - The greatest games of all time on Steam.
Is this game a masterpiece? After playing a few minutes and really enjoying the visuals, I was absolutely prepared to say so. After finishing the game, not anymore.
It is a run-to-the-right-side platformer. Run, jump, climb. Sometimes you have to duck or solve a few simple puzzles, that's it. There is a lot of.... just moving to the right (and avoiding robots or some plants/animals). The visuals are not so good the longer you play. Sure, there are still amazing backgrounds now and then, but large parts of the game take place underground, with bad or no lightning at all. Often things in front of the screen obscure your view as well. Furthermore, I did not understand the story and finished the game with only 5/16 cheavos. Guess I oversaw a few things... although I did take my time, and explored a few things on my left side as well. The whole game does not include any text or conversations, so you need a good imagination... or you just stay as clueless as I am. It was a nice experience, but not really a timeless masterpiece. And that comes from someone who really enjoys those Limbo-style games.
Conclusion:
Simple Limbo-style platformer without the devious puzzles, but more running and jumping.

'Planet Alpha' is 2.5D contemplative and interpretative game. You navigate through a colourful world full of beautiful varied alien species and poorly-designed opponents. All you have to do is to keep rushing to the right. The gameplay is overly repetitive until you reach some puzzle. Game design is not that great since I already lost more than five minutes wondering how to solve one dumb puzzle. As you progress through the game, you will quickly realize that 80% of the puzzles use the same repetitive mechanic: pull a block from the left to the right to help you jump to the next area.
Camera angle don't change until the very end. Controls are overly simple. Lighting is great but way too intense from time to time. As I said opponents are repetitive too but really easy to get over once you get their mechanics. Soundtrack is truly interesting and as varied as the environments you encounter. Overall, the atmospheres are the real quality of "Planet Alpha", they bring an unsuspected depth and an explosion of emotions in the middle of all the repetitiveness I mentioned.

Thought it was great, but you'd be mainly getting this as eye candy. It's gorgeous, and the set pieces are beautiful and well done. But it is hold-right-arrow-key to win, with some minor platforming and puzzles here and there. And often those platforming sections are more frustrating than engaging and the game lends itself more to trial-and-error gameplay than I would like. But, damn, it looks good. It's a good romp worth getting on sale if you can get behind it as more of an art piece.

There truly are some moments to find here that make this an audiovisual triumph, but alas there are also many such moments when the game gets in the way of it all. In the end I did enjoy the time I spend here, but I wish there was a better game underneath it.

Its a nice side-scroller. I enjoy these to play on my TV with my controller. Easy 100% completion to achieve.

This game is incredible. If you like games like Limbo or Little Nightmares then you will like this game. I dont understand why this game does not have tons of good reviews. Incredible graphics, incredible game play (starts from middle of the game). I will recommend to play it to the end (its breath taking).

8/10 Yes, Limbo vibes.
