Note that this review is for the V2 version as they are calling it. I have to give the developers a lot of credit for listening to the critasisms of their game. They have made significant changes to the game, all of which are for the better. They turned a monotanous slog of a game into a far more tense, interesting experiance. The atmosphere is great and the overall production is solid, if rough around the edges. Everything is better, but that isn't to say this is an amazing game overall. It still has bugs, combat still is only just ok, and writing and VO aren't great. Ultimately I think the game is worth a pickup at a sale price
I dont care about the negative reviews. I am enjoying it and i think its a decent game. The only thing i want to mention that bothered me is the price, its a bit too high in my opinion.
I played this game before the patch, and i was disapointed with the story telling, the ugly UI and some scenaries but yesterday i had the chance to play the new patch and i said "jesus what a great changes those guys made", everything is like i expected, it´s like if it were other game.
Past Cure has many facets and blends these artistically. The protagonist is haunted and is fighting for his sanity. The player must beat real and unreal monsters, all the while he's piecing the shattered story, mind of the protagonist, back together.I would suggest everyone to make up their own minds and play the game - but I suppose that's not why you read these reviews here. The reason that I would urge you to do so regardless is that some people seem to be disappointed by the game because they seemed to have a clear concept of what the game is going to be and were disappointed to see something different. If you want to hear it from me: I recommend the game -a true marvel for indie devs.Review:+ Graphics and animations seem ultra-realistic. 9/10+ Storytelling especially camera movement and framing is superbly done. 10/10+ Atmosphere is almost always eerie 8/10+ Game Design challenging difficulty and alternated often (7/10)- a little extra spice might have been missing+ Level Design well decorated and solid design (7/10)- however some progression felt slow at times.
Here is my Past Cure video review: While I would post this and give it a recommend on the steam page, it comes with some serious caveats. The team here is small and they aimed for a big cinematic experience. You won't get the same caliber of quality even if that's what you're expecting. If you like what you see on the media and on the reviews here on STEAM, be sure to know the game is rather short. My playtime was 8 hours and that was after having to start over almost half way when my save game was deleted for some reason. It's around 5 to 6 hours. The story is super intriguing but there really isn't much to it and no real good pay off. The combat is basic, stealth is basic, but servicable, but there is really no debth whatsoever. If you look at this game like narrative driven experience with some interactivity, it's easier to digest, but the narative just ends. Let's hope with this first entry, the devs can really excell and learn from the experience and knock it out of the part with a sequel. I'd reccomend it if you know all this and are ok with what you get, otherwise, it's something most will probably want to avoid.
Past Cure ReviewMy Video Review: What I Liked:- The Journey of the story provides enough mystery and motivation to want to see the end.- The Cut Scenes are good, especially with the camerawork involved with them. The developer shows their skill in this area.- Chapter 4 is when the main action/stealth kicks in and most of it is rather fun (though rough around the edges).- Headshots are a joy to pull off and the powers can be fun to use (though, very limited within the game).- There’s one level that focuses on atmosphere and puzzle solving with a bit of horror. This is the best level in the game as you don’t have a weapon, so you feel vulnerable which adds to the tension. Plus, the puzzles are simple yet fun to complete. It was a nice change of pace from the action bits. I wish there were more sequences like this. What I’d like to see Improved:- The Story is fun to follow but, it never leads anywhere. You do not get many answers. I was hoping for a plot twist that might make me re-think the story but that never came.- The game needed more of the atmospheric sections that focused on horror and puzzles. If the game traded sections like this with the action it would have created a good flow of feeling vulnerable during the atmospheric sections and feeling empowered during the gun battles.- There’s a large enough instant fail section that occurs in the game. This section is annoying and not fun. It also goes against the action that precedes it that allowed you to do optional stealth with gunplay. - The game can feel a bit clunky and rough around the edges.- The game needed more guns as you only get access to two pistols, an SMG and a shotgun (in one level).- The powers available in the game are neat but used in a very basic way. I would have liked this to be expanded on.Those are some points from my video review. My video review touches on more with the game along with showing examples from the game itself. I’m better at my videos than my writing lol.Overall, I’d say the game is worth trying and probably best experienced on a sale.
Great psychological thriller that you'll spend hours playing! Follow the great storyline as it moves from one reality to the next to solve the "who what why" Lots of special moves in the combat system. Great Matrix like slowmo kill / takedown mode. More than one way to solve each situation.Great developer, fantastic indie game!
