Paradise Killer

An island outside of reality. A rogue human civilization hoping to resurrect dead alien gods. A murder behind locked doors. Paradise is an island that regenerates every few millennia. The psychic power that the alien worshipers within release into the universe is meant to feed and eventually resurrect their fallen deities. But this force also attracts undesired interest from demons, who eventually corrupt each island — until a new alternate reality is birthed by the Council. The system isn’t perfect, but it will be one day — on Perfect 25, the next island-to-be. But on the eve of rebirth, the Council is murdered and Paradise is killed. In the aftermath, the “investigation freak” Lady Love Dies is summoned from exile to find the culprit. This is the crime to end all crimes. What are the facts? What are the truths? Are they the same?

4 years after finishing this game when it first released, I'm surprised I never wrote a review for it. So I might as well, because I wholeheartedly love and recommend Paradise Killer.
When I first played it, and when I thought I had gathered every single piece of information, there was something that didn't add up. A piece of information that didn't fit in with the rest. It wasn't complete. I passed it off as unimportant, thinking that maybe I misunderstood the description, that I got the order of events wrong, that I made a mistake and that it was unimportant. So I ignored it, finished the game, and called it a day. But even after finishing, that bugging feeling of this little detail missing something persisted.
And so to my surprise, when I looked at the Wiki for this game years later to remind myself of the lore, there was a name I didn't recognize. A character to whom I could not identify a face. If you told me the names of every character with a sprite in this game, I could most likely give a vague description of their appearance now. But not this character. And when I looked at where they could be found, I returned to the game. And it was then that all the puzzle pieces suddenly fell into place. Everything suddenly added up. Suddenly, everything made sense.
This satisfactory feeling of slowly coming closer to the truth, of discovering the chain of events and the actions of the parties involved, is a one time experience akin to Outer Wilds. It's a bold comparison, but I truly felt the same emotion when finishing both of these games.
If you need a reason to play this game, then it's that the story and lore are absolutely beautiful and sure to grab your attention. If you need multiple reasons, then the gameplay, music, art, general vibe, dialouge, puzzles, character personalities and world design should be more than enough.
My only critique, which is honestly just nitpicking, is that I wish the final trial had its very own music, because there is a time and a place to listen to Breeze With U, and it's not when a character is begging for their life.
I may be 4 years late, but I do hope this game gets vastly more attention the same way other games have.
