Overboss
About the Game
You are a Boss. You’ve always been a master of monsters, a builder of dungeons, and a hunter of heroes. For many years, you’ve competed with other Bosses in contests of prowess and villainy. Now it’s time to emerge from the underworld. It’s time to shape a new land and bend it to your will. It’s time to claim your crown as the ultimate OVERBOSS!
Each turn, you’ll draft one tile and token set from the Market. Place the tile in an open spot of your map. Every terrain type is scored differently!
Swamps get Power points for being adjacent to coasts and other Swamps. Graveyards give a big bonus to whoever collects the most, while Forests increase in Power as you collect more.
Every tile comes with a token. If it’s a monster or Miniboss token, put it on top of an open terrain tile. A monster with a matching icon scores a bonus point, and “bands” of monsters – lines of two or more in a raw – give bigger bonuses.
As you fill your map, use Portals to move your Monsters and Minibosses. Collect Crystals to multiply your power. With smart placement and clever combos, you can build a truly powerful map. At the end of the game, the player with the highest score is crowned OVERBOSS!

All in all a cool concept but I'm getting absolutely railed in the easy mode campaign due to not being able to do missions. It basically asks you do do things like make a line of 3 or a 2x2 set of a specific terrain, and then the game just never gives you that terrain or proper tokens for it. Its rng and not really in a good way.
That said, it is fun when you get what you want but you might burn through lives re-trying to get it. Still recommended if you can get this on a sale. just something to burn an hour or 2.

I've seen the mixed reviews, but after playing the game post-patch, I can confidently say there's nothing wrong with it. Both single-player and multiplayer modes run flawlessly in my experience, and I honestly don’t understand the complaints. It seems like we're in a time where negativity and complaints often overshadow genuine quality.
The game looks fantastic, plays smoothly, and the sound design is on point. What more can you ask for? On top of that, the makers have promised future updates with new content, so there's even more to look forward to.
For full transparency, yes, I paid for the game with my own money—even though I received a copy through backing one of their other Kickstarter projects. I'm a long-time fan and own every Boss Monster board game, including expansions, Boss Monster 2, and Overboss, along with physical editions of their other games like Dungeon Kart. So, I know what I’m talking about.
Overall, this game delivers, and I highly recommend it.

Here to tip the scales back the other way, Most these reviews were when the game came out and it apparently had a bug then. As of this review I haven't had any problems at all. I have the board game in real life, and have all the Brotherwise Boss Monster related games also. Great games and lots of repeatability. Same can be said for this game here on steam.
Plays just like the board game does. Multiplayer and solo are both fantastic and run smoothly. As for the campaign I do find it a bit odd you have to get exactly what its asking for since its RNG. so that's tough, but not impossible. Personally I think they should of gone with a more Yugioh or Pokemon style campaign where you "Duel" other people, or in this case, other bosses just by playing a match. Maybe have some different match challenges or something to put an edge on it like Star Realms does.
Anyways I just came here to say I really enjoy this steam version of the board game. Love playing with others or solo, and I hope they add to this game in the future with more bosses and tiles. leader boards would be fun too. I want this game to do good so that more adaptations make its way to steam. Hinting at you Boss Monster.

Overboss is fixed! Overboss is fixed!!!
It's a great implementation of the board game with a lot of visual flair. It's not quite Monster Couch or Dire Wolf when it comes to the flair, but it's a few steps above the majority of board game adaptations on here.
It's unfortunate that the initial outpouring of negative reviews due to bugs may have cursed this game permanently. If you consider yourself at all a fan of board games like Cascadia or Calico from Flatout Games, Overboss carries the same tile placement DNA. It's a bit more simple than those two in strategy -- and, if I'm honest, the gameplay lacks the polish of either* -- but there's certainly room on the digital shelf for it.
One of the biggest bonuses and let downs is the inclusion of a solo campaign mode, with limited chances to complete three challenges across a series of levels. Here's where I hope the developers are able to put more work into it and take some nods from Monster Couch's Calico adaptation, because as it stands, the challenges are far, far, far too reliant on RNG. I keep coming back for more, but it doesn't mean I'm enjoying having to put down three castles all occupied by vampires when RNG means I never see three of either total, and subsequently just lose a life. A bit silly.
* (I really wish they Brotherwise dedicated some time to expansions and improvements more consistently beyond the Duel implementation, because if we got those...Overboss would be a strong contender against the aforementioned titles. The style and gameplay loop don't need improvements, just the tile balance and asymmetry.)

I like Overboss, but this should have been Early Access due to the bugs present. How do you release a game into 1.0 where the options menu button doesn't work when you enter windowed mode?

If you're a board game lover such as myself, than you'll love what they did with this game. every tile and monster has been brought to (semi)life. each moving in the old 8bit bouncy style. the music and sound effects add more life to the game. Its true to the original board game, no fancy gimmicks, no "Meta" nonsense, and definitely no Battlepass. Its a simple game with lots of replay-ability. even better with friends, i got through 3 games with my friend online with 0 issues, so far we are 1-2. Get this game, its only $12. instead of buying another skin on CoD or Fortnite, just enjoy simple plain laid back fun. EDIT:I forgot to mention, even though the game was just released and there are "bugs". its a new game, and its only $12. i can name a handful of AAA $60-$70 games that were in development for YEARS and then went ALPHA for a few more and still got fully released with HELLA BUGS. so take these tire pressure IQ kids crying about bugs with a grain of salt.

Been a fan of the card games for a while after a mutual friend showed it off for me. We sat here and played 2 hours of games alone and had a blast doing it. The mechanics are very easy to understand, the characters and music are very enjoyable. It's a simple game but very enjoyable if you love classics that have an abundance of passion put towards their projects. Fantastic game, looking forward to playing more with my friends!
