Our Life: Beginnings & Always is a feel-good simulation, as well as a “feel-better” one, where painful emotions such as sadness, anger, stress, and worry can all be expressed, then met with reassurance, understanding, and support.
It’s a wholesome experience that faces large steppingstones of life, while having a focus on familiar everyday moments. With notable amounts of customization for even tiny details, you can enjoy pleasures as simple as having a preferred type of drink and a neighbor who cares enough to remember what it is.
- 4 different periods of life to experience: childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, and fully grown

Jamie Last (changeable name) has spent the last couple weeks on a summertime high. At eight-years-old, nothing is better than what feels like endless days of school-less adventures, especially when you live walking distance from the beach. While coming home under a scorching sunset one fine evening, Jamie is approached by a stranger. The man is looking for a kid who can do him a favor, and he’s even offering to pay for it. He wants Jamie to please be friends with his only child. The person is Mr. Holden, Jamie’s new neighbor, as well as the father of the odd, and oddly named boy, Cove. Whether Jamie wants to play along or not, Cove isn’t going anywhere. He’s present in Jamie’s life for far longer than they ever would’ve guessed.
And then the long days of vacation finally come to an end. Summer may not be able to last forever, but Jamie can take comfort in knowing it will come back again someday…

W ciągu sześciu godzin doświadczyłem dziesięciu lat dzieciństwa, którego nigdy nie miałem. Zostałem przeniesiony do życia, o jakim marzyłem, z wspierającą i kochającą rodziną, z rodzicami, którzy kochali się nawzajem i wspierali mnie taką, jaką byłem. Doświadczyłem zauroczenia bez wstydu, przyjaźni, jakiej nigdy nie miałem jako dziecko, i nikt nie powiedział mi, że jestem zły, będąc tym, kim jestem. Miałem związek, którego bałem się od czasów nastoletnich, a ludzie wokół mnie mnie wspierali. Przez te sześć godzin byłem w lepszym miejscu.
Pod koniec byłem rozpłakany, a po napisach końcowych wypłakałem się. Dostałem piękny wgląd w życie, o którym marzyłem, odkąd oswoiłem się ze swoją seksualnością. Znów byłem dzieckiem i mogłem robić rzeczy tak, jak sam bym chciał, i tak, jak nigdy bym nie był w stanie. Nie wszyscy geje mają tyle szczęścia, by zostać wychowanymi przez dwie kochające matki w postępowej Kalifornii, tak jak główny bohater tej gry, i… nie będę kłamał, pod koniec poczułem się trochę urażony. Przypomniałem sobie, ile straciłem jako dziecko. Ile mi nie wolno było robić, ile musiałem okłamywać samego siebie, ile udawać.
Nigdy wcześniej nie grałem w powieść wizualną i byłem nią pochłonięty przez cały czas. Scenariusz był przepiękny, a całość niezwykle emocjonalna. To romans bez erotyzmu, a chociaż gra koncentruje się wokół głównego bohatera, Cove'a, twoja miłość do niego jest opcjonalna i nie jest w żaden sposób narzucona. Nic nie wydaje się wymuszone, a gracz jest informowany o dostępnych opcjach i o tym, jak jego decyzje wpłyną na rozwój wydarzeń. Po prostu wszystko wydaje się być zrobione dobrze.
Przepraszam, nie chcę nikogo urazić ani nic takiego. Po prostu mówię... jeśli jesteś osobą gejowską/queer, która nigdy nie miała okazji dorastać w przyjaznym środowisku i doświadczyć dzieciństwa, jakie ma wiele osób niequeer... ta gra może pokazać ci lepsze. Powrót do rzeczywistości będzie trudny, kiedy już się skończy, ale jeśli jesteś jak ja i nadal masz problemy z akceptacją siebie w dorosłym życiu... może ta gra pomoże ci poczuć się trochę lepiej. Czuję się trochę inną osobą po zagraniu w nią. Jakby jakaś część mojego umysłu odnalazła spokój.
Chociaż to był tylko jeden wieczór... Doświadczyłem szczęśliwego dzieciństwa, jakiego nigdy nie miałem.
