I’ll be honest, I played the last 2D game was Sonic the Hedgehog, after playing Crysis I was never a 2D platform gamer. The genre never really pulled me in, and I always gravitated towards other types of games. But then I stumbled upon Ori and the Blind Forest, and let me tell you… this game changed everything.
From the moment I started playing, I was completely mesmerized. The visuals, the music, the atmosphere—it all blended together to create something truly magical. I came in as a skeptic, and I left as a huge fan.
A Visual and Artistic Masterpiece
I don’t think words can do justice to how stunning this game looks. Every frame feels like a living painting, with breathtaking environments that are rich in color and depth. The way light filters through the trees, the movement of Ori, and the sheer attention to detail in every level, it’s a feast for the eyes.
Even if you’ve never played a 2D platformer before, the art alone will keep you invested. Whether you’re exploring the lush greenery of the Sunken Glades or escaping a raging flood, every moment is visually unforgettable.
A Soundtrack That Touches the Soul
If you ever want to feel a game through music, this is the one. The Ori and the Blind Forest soundtrack is a masterpiece on its own—melancholic, uplifting, and perfectly timed with every moment of the game.
The orchestral pieces tug at your heartstrings, and the way the music swells during emotional moments is nothing short of perfection. I found myself just pausing at times, letting the music wash over me. It’s that powerful.
Gameplay: Challenging but Rewarding
For someone who never played platformers, I won’t lie, this game challenged me. It’s fluid, fast-paced, and at times, brutally difficult. But every challenge feels fair, and when you finally nail that perfect jump or make it past an intense sequence, the satisfaction is unreal.
The movement mechanics are smooth as butter, and Ori’s abilities evolve in a way that makes gameplay feel fresh throughout. The game teaches you without holding your hand, and that sense of discovery is something I deeply appreciated.
An Emotional Story That Stays With You
I didn’t expect to feel so much while playing this game, but here I am, still thinking about its story. Without using much dialogue, Ori and the Blind Forest tells a deeply emotional tale of love, loss, and perseverance. It’s simple yet incredibly powerful.
This is the kind of game that makes you reflect, not just on the story itself, but on themes of sacrifice, belonging, and the beauty of life. And when a game can do that? That’s something truly special.
Pros:
Absolutely gorgeous visuals – Every frame is artwork.
A breathtaking soundtrack – Emotional, immersive, and unforgettable.
Tight, fluid gameplay – Platforming feels smooth and rewarding.
A story that truly resonates – Deeply emotional without needing much dialogue.
Perfectly paced progression – Unlocking new abilities feels natural and exciting.
Cons:
Can be quite challenging – If you're not used to platformers, expect a learning curve.
Save system takes some getting used to – The manual save mechanic is unique but can catch you off guard.
You might cry – Not really a con, but this game will hit you in the feels.
Conclusion:
I went into Ori and the Blind Forest not expecting much, after all, 2D platformers weren’t my thing. But this game proved me completely wrong. It’s a work of art, a journey of emotions, and one of the most beautiful experiences I’ve had in gaming.
If you’re even remotely curious, play it. Even if you’re not a 2D platformer fan like I was, this game will win you over. Trust me, I came for the visuals, stayed for the music, and left with a new appreciation for an entire genre.

A beaituful and emotional journey
Rating ★★★★☆
The art style and ambience of this game are truly top-tier. The music is haunting and really pulls you into the game world.
Even the menu is visually stunning.
The movement and traversal felt good, although the jumping seemed a little off to me at first but I eventually became used to it.
The abilities are well thought out, with an easy to understand UI and progression system.
The same can be said for the level design, with obstacles and challenges easy enough to overcome with a touch of logic and imagination.
Despite all my praise for this game, I still have to admit I felt a little drained by the end. Not from the heartbreaking story, but from my countless deaths.

Ori huh? so this one is the original and first one, its a straight up masterpiece. I love the lil guy hes amazing. the movement will make you fall in love with the game, the fact you can get more mobility that allows you to get to places you haven't been to as one option and become much stronger as another sets this very fun balance and freedom choice. 10/10 game play it first and see what will of the wisps has to say if you liked it.

This is my first time to write an evaluation. I am extremely excited and unable to control myself. Although this game has received high praise on Steam, I still want to praise it. Ori is a game that has kept me deeply immersed for a long time. After buying it, I played it immediately and kept playing until I finished it. This process took me one day, and it was well worth it. The game was so good that I forgot about time. I bought it yesterday afternoon and finished it tonight. The last game that made me so immersed was "The Memory of Edith Finch". Although they are not of the same type of game, they are both called the Ninth Art.

The Definitive Edition of this game is not available in my region, which means I can’t leave a comment of it, and obviously that’s why I’m here.
It turns out that beauty never goes out of style. Even in 2025, a game released over a decade ago still feels timeless.
This is a flawless masterpiece — with its breathtaking art style, epic music, smooth and responsive gameplay, and a simple yet deeply resonant story, the entire experience feels like a joyride. While the difficulty is definitely not low, approaching it with a calm mindset and treating each death as part of the journey rather than a punishment can really enhance the experience. Personally, I found traversing Black Root Burrows this time to be much easier than when I first played it on Switch. I guess it can be attributed to being more familiar with the map, having a calmer mindset, and improved skill.
If I had to nitpick, I’d say Ori’s movement in Blind Forest lacks the silky smoothness that Will of the Wisps absolutely nailed. There’s also a bug: even though I’ve upgraded the range of Light Burst in the skill tree, the energy orb often falls frustratingly short when thrown. No matter how I adjust the angle or position, the range stays limited — until I click on the skill again a few times in the tree (even though it’s already upgraded), which seems to fix it. It feels like a loose connection or glitch and does impact the gameplay a bit.
On a side note, the Definitive Edition is region-locked in China mainland. As for the idiots who pirate the game and still have the nerve to taunt those who paid for the game — I honestly think they deserve whatever comes to them. That said, I still wonder if the developer's choice of region-locking and removal of Chinese language option is irrational and unreasonable, which involves regional prejudice and discrimination.
