Greetings, adventurer! Rooted in the origin of MMOs, Old School RuneScape is the only ever-lasting, ever-evolving adventure that is shaped by you.
Released way back in 2013, Old School RuneScape is RuneScape as you *used* to know it! Based on the 2007 build of the globally popular open world fantasy MMORPG, Old School is constantly updated with improvements and new content voted on by you, the fans! The close relationship between developers and players is central to what makes Old School so magical.
So, you want to be a master cook? Or a powerful mage? Whether you’re here for the rich story and lore, the challenging combat, to fight alongside others or against them, to journey alone or simply to experience the magical world of Gielinor, Old School can be any adventure you want.
Master 23 diverse skills across a huge array of play styles
Take on over 140 quests spanning the fascinating and varied game world
Confront dozens and dozens of bosses
Risk everything in an assortment of PvP encounters
Profit from a thriving and dynamic in-game economy
Some people just want to hang out with friends. And you’ll find plenty of folk to do that with in Gielinor. But those who want seek a different kind of adventure have plenty of choices, too.
No matter what you’re specializing in, the quest for the best loot will have skillers and perfectionists obsessing over their character builds. The strongest wand, the mightiest bow, the most *fabulous* hat – there’s always something to aim for.
And if you’re among the most ardent adventurers, be sure to let people know by donning one of the many Capes of Accomplishment. Who knows, maybe one day the fabled Max Cape can be yours?
A rich story and deep well of lore await those whose interests are more cerebral, too. From the dastardly dealings of corrupt rulers to the day-to-day musings of the village baker, tales of both… world-shattering urgency and casual procrastination abound.
Over two dozen major quest-lines allow players to delve into Gielinor’s past and future, and the pages are still being written, waiting for you to witness their unfolding. With major game updates every week, the experience never stops evolving and improving.
This world goes where you go, too, with full cross-compatibility across PC and mobile versions!
The key to Old School’s success is both special and unique – it’s you! From the day Old School was born, we recognized that building on the game’s foundations while staying loyal to its very essence was essential. That’s why players have the deciding vote on every improvement that is or is not introduced to the game.
In-game polling isn’t the only interaction, either. Join developers on their regular behind-the-scenes live-streams, or chat with them directly across our many social channels. Old School is owned just as much by its players as it is its makers.
Old School is a free-to-play game that anyone can enjoy, and many of our players have been with us for almost two decades without ever paying for membership. But Membership unlocks even more thrilling content to get stuck into. Members enjoy access to:

DISCLAIMER : the free-to-play experience is a very tiny part of the game content, maybe 2-4% I'd say. Think of it as a demo to grasp the core mechanics and progression of the game, but it's extremely limited compared to the subscribed experience.
15/20, a very unique and extremely diverse approach the the MMO genre. Tons of little steps of pregression that adds up to unlock new things ; progression gets very time-consuming in the late game though.
DETAILED NOTATION :
*Graphics (graphic design / graphics technical quality) : 1,5/3. The artstyle is certainly unique, and the devs make the efforts to keep it coherent, even between the assets going 20 years back and now. Technically, however, there's tons of small render glitchs or very crude graphics that kinda spoil the graphic experience. It's VERY retro, and in fact it already was when it came out in the 2000's !
*Sound (music / sound design) : 2,5/3, litterally hundreds of music tracks ! A good chunk of them are just okay, but many are pretty memorable, and very varied.
*Functionality (menus / UI) : 3/3, menus can be a bit tricky to get a good grasp on at first I guess, however there are TONS of customization options to make the IU tailored to suit your needs.
*Story (ambience / narration / engagement / ending) : 2/3, many fun and absurd dialogs and quests, but also some serious story-telling on the side, and developed lore. Most of the time however, when grinding or such, there's not much story behind what you're doing.
*Short-term gameplay (originality / smoothness / difficulty balance) : 3/3, the gameplay is probably the most critical point of the game, as it stands very unique among other MMOs AFAIK. Basically, it revolves around :
- inventory management, the core mechanic of the game. Inventory is a fixed limited size, and so gearing up before a fight or optimizing your skilling activities is an engaging thing in itself !
- intertwined skills : 23 (soon to be 24) skills, and every skill (except maybe 4-5 basic combat skills) interact in some way or another with several other skills, meaning every skill level up is significant for your global progression.
- point-and click mechanics : since the game is played mainly with the mouse, that results, especially for quests, in basically a point and click interactions with your environment, allowing complex puzzles to be presented
- many, many, MANY diverse activities to discover and progressively unlock. At first there's not much you can do, but almost every quest or skill level-up bring a new activity, or area, or monsters to kill, or minigame, or items to craft, or equipment to obtain, or transportation system, or boss(es) ... etc ! Most of the game is about non-combat activities, too. Honestly, I don't think you can find 2 players with identical in-game habits.
*Long-term gameplay (engagement / progression / gameplay diversity / collections / secrets) : 2/3, skill level progression is quick at first ; however expect TONS of grinding to progress past mid-game ; yet given the variety of the activities, you can easily switch between things you're doing every few minutes or so, and as I told before every small progress step adds up.
Regular updates (1 per week, although most of them are balancing / QOL updates)
*Personal enjoyment (from -2 to +2) : 1, I honestly love the core gameplay of the game. However, my character being somewhere between wmid and high level, I must admit the grinding can get boring and really time-consuming ! I personnally prefer playing a fex weeks straight and then cancel my submissions for a few months ; then come back to enjoy the new content added since then and do some grinding, before stopping again, and so on.

Un bon vieux RPG qui est MMO en plus, une perle que je regrette de ne pas avoir démarré avant. Y a que les graphismes qui piquent un peu mais on s'y fait très vite!
