Nuclear Blaze
The world is burning.
Well, not exactly, but the whole region is.
As a trained firefighter, you’re being air-dropped right in the middle of this hell blaze to investigate and look for survivors. But the unexpected presence of an unknown military facility might somewhat affect your plans.
- A unique 2D firefighting game with all the devastating backdrafts, exploding walls and sprinklers you could expect.
- Smooth "signature" controls and gameplay from the guy who was in charge on Dead Cells.
- An action/adventure game crafted with love and attention to details.
- Use your fire hose carefully to keep the blaze under control and progress through the facility.
- Dedicated "Kid mode" designed for very young kids (~3 years old and more), with specific level design, rules and gameplay… while still featuring firefighters, helicopters and trucks!
- Not a roguelite/like/vania this time!
- Unravel the true story of Site 16 and A-█████. Access to these informations may require authorization clearance ████ and ██.
Following the path of Celeste, Nuclear Blaze also offers some fine-tuning of difficulty by allowing players to adjust some rules to their needs. There’s no Easy or Hard mode, but you can consider the default settings as being quite difficult.
Making your gamer life easier is fine, it’s about having fun, so feel free to adjust your in-game settings.
Nuclear Blaze first started as a game jam entry for Ludum Dare. It was created in 48h and received lots of positive feedback and support from everyone 🙂
My first intention was to create a game my 3yrs old boy could play, as he is a big fan of firefighters. Obviously, the game became more and more complex and quickly turned out to be too difficult for him: I then decided to add a specific "Kid mode".
The Kid Mode is a special mode in the game, designed with young players in mind, featuring specific rules:
- Specific levels meant to be easy to explore,
- You can’t die,
- Water is infinite,
- Water is auto-aimed,
- Controls are simplified.
- Helicopters and trucks everywhere, because kids love them.

Short but challenging fire extinguishing game. Doesn't take long to finish even NG+ but still well worth it.
Works perfectly on Steam Deck as well.

Its not a bad game but its just ok. Its kind of boring and repetitive. All you do every level is put out fires and flip switches. Its more of a puzzle game than I would like it to be having to solve the only path each level will let you go with sequence of button presses and switch flips. The platforming is slippery and floaty and sometimes it eats your jumps or you'll slide of platforms, its not that great. Sometimes you get hurt by fire that doesn't look like its there or you'll dodge roll back from an exploding door and you somehow get hurt even though you don't the next time. The mechanics are a bit finnicky. There is an extra mode which adds some playtime to it and its a pretty short game. It makes putting out fires fun for a bit but theres just not much to the game. Gets a "barely recommend", def not worth all the hype. 6.5/10

I thought the game was decent overall, but I wouldn’t recommend it at full price. It’s quite short and includes some frustrating design decisions. One-hit deaths are already a challenge, but combining them with a save system that sends you unnecessarily far back feels outdated and needlessly punishing. Without that, my total playtime would likely have been much shorter.
The firefighting gameplay was a highlight for me, creative and enjoyable. Unfortunately, the addition of combat detracted from the experience. I found the enemies frustrating and didn’t enjoy the boss fight at all. It’s especially tedious that you have to repeat a small, irrelevant gameplay section just to get another attempt at the boss.
That said, it’s not a bad game. I wouldn’t rate it negatively, but I’d only suggest picking it up during a deep discount.

8/10 - A wonderful 2D platformer in which you go into a secret military facility as a fireman to save cats from the fire. Simply great!

An awesome little adventure platformer. It won't take up a huge amount of your time, but its at a good low price (and goes on sale for even lower pretty regularly). The levels are nice and contained so if you only have a little bit of time you can do a level or two, or if you're able you can burn through the whole game (didn't mean for that pun). I highly recommend it and hope that a follow up occurs some day as I think it has a lot of potential in that way too.
Note: Even though this says Unsupported currently for Steam Deck, others have noted and I wanted to point out too that it plays perfectly. I would consider it Verified personally, so I think its just a matter of it needing to get reviewed by Valve again.

Despite it's short length, this is a wonderful experience filled with charm, great art design, and fun gameplay mechanics. I really hope there’s a sequel that expands upon the wonderful foundation the developer has built.

The amount of firefighting games are kind of small and this is a nice addition to the roster. Good fire spreading mechanic that gets realistically frustrating and drives the urgency forward. There is something ominous going on in the story and it paces itself just enough to make one want to continue on and see what's going on.
Also plenty of kitties for those that love them.
Easy recommendation!
