Experience the epic journey of Nuna and Fox as they search for the source of an eternal blizzard that threatens the survival of everything they have ever known. Never Alone is an atmospheric puzzle platformer developed in collaboration with the Iñupiat, an Alaska Native people, drawn from a traditional story that has been shared across the generations. Guide both characters in single-player mode or play cooperatively with a friend as you trek through frozen tundra, leap across treacherous ice floes, swim through underwater caverns and face enemies both strange and familiar. (NOTE: Local co-op play requires at least one Xbox 360 or equivalent game controller). On over 75 "Best of 2014" lists and winner of "Best Debut Game" at the 2015 BAFTA Games Awards as well as "Game of the Year" and "Most Significant Impact" at the 2015 Games for Change Awards, nearly 40 Alaska Native elders, storytellers and community members contributed to the making of the game.

Never Alone basiert inhaltlich auf der Mythologie der Iñupiat in Alaska. Die Bildsprache ist sehr stimmig und atmosphärisch und trägt sowohl die Story als auch das Spiel; die kulturellen Einblicke sind interessant und gut eingebettet. Spieltechnisch ist Never Alone ein Plattformer, bei dem bestimmte Passagen bewusst auf Wiederholung angelegt sind, um Abfolge und Timing zu erlernen. Vereinzelt treten technische Probleme auf: Selten bleibt der Fuchs im Spiel stecken, was gelegentlich einen Neustart vom letzten Checkpoint erfordert. Die Checkpoints sind insgesamt jedoch sehr fair gesetzt, sodass kaum Fortschritt verloren geht. Im DLC Foxtales gibt es im ersten Kapitel einen fehlerhaften Checkpoint, was angesichts der ansonsten fairen Spielgestaltung verschmerzbar bleibt.

Never Alone is rooted in the mythology of the Iñupiat people of Alaska. Its visual language is highly cohesive and atmospheric, supporting both the story and the gameplay; the cultural insights are engaging and well integrated. From a gameplay perspective, Never Alone is a platformer in which certain sections are deliberately designed to be repeated in order to learn timing and sequence. Occasional technical issues occur: in rare cases, the fox can get stuck, sometimes requiring a restart from the last checkpoint. Overall, however, the checkpoints are very fairly placed, so little progress is lost. In the DLC Foxtales, there is a faulty checkpoint in the first chapter, but given the otherwise fair design, this remains tolerable.

Ein wundervolles Spiel, das die Traditionen und das tägliche Leben der Iñupiat eindrucksvoll erzählt. Die Inhalte werden in Form einer bekannten Iñupiat-Geschichte dargestellt. Die Grafik ist wirklich sehr schön, und die Musik passend. Die Steuerung ist etwas schwierig, aber man kann sich arrangieren. Leider gibt es hier und da ein paar Bugs, aber durch das Laden des letzten Spielstands kann man die Fehler umgehen.
Als Bonus ist das DLC "Foxtales" ins Spiel integriert. Auch hier erfahren wir Interessantes über die Iñupiat anhand einer weiteren Geschichte.
Insgesamt kann ich dieses Spiel jedem wärmstens ans Herz legen, der Interesse an der beeindruckenden Geschichte des Iñupiat-Volkes hat.

Tolles spiel, schöne Geschichten und interessante Videos. Die Steuerung ist leider etwas ... nervenaufreibend ... aber man kommt damit klar. Super süßer Zeichenstil.

Ein sehr liebevolles, schönes Jump-n-Run-Spiel mit Geschichte. Über ein paar Bugs in der Spielengine muss man hinwegsehen, dafür wird man mit toller Atmosphäre ähnlich wie bei Samorost oder Machinarium belohnt. Zu zweit macht es wahrscheinlich noch mehr Spaß, aber auch alleine kriegt man es gut hin.

Es ist eine schöne Mischung aus etwas Lernen und zu zweit gemeinsam auf der Couch spielen.
