Mutants and monsters unleash maniacal carnage on the gridiron in THIS action packed, arcade-style football game. Mutant Football League delivers intense online multiplayer action, deep strategy and deadly humor. Fantastical arenas full of ruthless fans and deadly traps set the stage for mayhem in every contest that allows players to win by highest score or by killing and eradicating their opponents – a feat made easier as teams use their unique [Dirty Tricks] (dirty tricks) such as [Bribe the Ref] (bribe the ref) to overturn a call or having a player become [Ginormous] (ginormous) to grow in size and pummel the puny combatants in their path. Whenever a game begins you’ll quickly discover the only predictable element is broken bones.

KILL THE QUARTERBACK!! NO I MEAN REALLY KILL HIM!!
What a classic of a game! Brings me back to Mutant League Football back on SEGA Genesis. I used to play the heck out that game back in the day, it was so funny and just a beat'em up football experience. This game plays like NFL Blitz but has the MLF play style. Controls are basic and pretty much like any Football game on the market as in Madden or others. The graphics are pretty good and looks pretty nice, more so if the last time you played a game like it was 16bit lol.
I love the tricks and dirty plays. Just a FYI if the other team uses bribes, just kill the ref lol Real good game if you loved football games and love something a bit different and a bit more tongue-in-cheek. Mad props for Digital Dreams for bringing some MLF nostalgia to this old gamer lol
So snap this one into your cart if you love a little carnage and blood shed in your Football gaming!

This game really brings back some of the old flavor we used to have with NFL Blitz, with a little more strategy involved. The "dirty tricks" aspect really keeps you on your toes. Throw in the fact that every teams' stadium has different obstacles to overcome, and you have yourself an arcade-style football game that will keep you coming back, time and time again. All the action is hosted by a hilarious team of voiceover actors that in my opinion, never get old. As if these things weren't enough, the Dynasty mode really creates a great challenge for even the most seasoned MFL players. Too easy? Feel free to bump the difficulty, but good luck with that.
After over 20 hours of play, I hope for another installment that cleans up the blocking and tackling animations a bit. The characters themselves could use a bit of an visual overhaul as well, because on the field, each member of each species looks exactly the same as one another, apart from their physical size. Literally the only other thing that's different are their jersey numbers. The all-around animations can seem a bit wonky and unfair at times too, but it's really not enough to keep you from enjoying the game at a challenging level.
I'd love to see both a hockey and basketball installment! Some all-around team customization and stadium customization would also be nice. It'd be really cool to customize a stadium with these field obstacles and see what kind of carnage would unfold!
This game is just full of character. It's a clever, thoroughly enjoyable addition to the arsenal of any sports game fan.

I love the game of football but don't really care about the nfl in general, I used to play a lot of Madden/NFL2k back in the day purely for the Dynasty/Franchise modes and this really scratches that itch without being overly time consuming. I love building a team from lowly rookies to a stacked team - It turns the game play from pure sports to something more in depth and RPG-ish and your own personal story begins to flesh out as you advance your players and your team.
as for the downsides...
Even after developing a great team that is highly skilled you are never actually safe in a game - this is both a fun aspect and one of the things that make me almost rage, because you will sometimes get slaughtered by low level teams that seem to intercept every pass, win multiple onside kicks, get a fumble when they really need one, the list goes on and on with the cheese you will be subjected to and yes sometimes you can get the cheese right back on them, but sometimes you will get caught in a massive avalanche of cheapness that is just unbelievable. Generally speaking I usually just deal with it but as I wrap up my playtime with this one I need to get a few more achievements so I call a "dirty play" called alt-f4 when I need to.
Anyway, all the good outweighs the bad by a bunch, can't wait for MFL 2 because there is a ton of room for improvement.

Unhinged, unapologetic, brutal and ultimately extremely fun .
Somewhat barebones in presentation but unexpectedly thorough in its arcade gameplay as well as ruleset and very committed towards extensive pun-filled, as close to real life Rosters as possible.
So committed that they keep updating them year after year and listening to community feedback even if they've already moved on towards a sequel and other projects.
Kudos to the devs!

I really enjoyed this game, so I tried to be a completionist. However, if you buy this game now, there are a few achievements that you cannot get because they changed the game but not the achievements for the changes. This felt very displeasing. I wish I had read that it was impossible to complete the achievements before I bought it. It still feels incomplete even though I have done everything. A shame.
