The story is amazing, and the game mechanics are similar to the old street fighter games. The story is detailed and amazing. Honestly if you're looking into killing some time during quarantine then this game is the go to.

A great game by all regards.
It's a classic freedom fighter underdog story.
It has an insanely appealing soundtrack.
The visuals are gripping, terrifying, and beautiful.
This is one of the only fighting games I've actually preferred to play on the keyboard, so that's something.
There's a surprising amount of depth to the gameplay - if you're shooting for the skill ceiling.
You could play the storyline a dozen times before you get sick of it or play survival mode, which is a serious forearm trainer. Something about the top scores of this game seem so possible and yet just out of reach, a serious incentive to play for competitive players such as myself.
It feels rewarding and thrilling to succeed in this game.
It's more of a singleplayer experience to me, but it does have local coop.
The steam showcase makes the game seem cluttered and chaotic - which it often is, and succeeds at doing, but the actual storyline is much more memorable and dependent on you as the player when you run it alone. And don't let some gore scare you if it isn't normally your thing, because this game is a fuckin' work of art.

Mother Russia Bleeds is Streets of Rage set in Russia and splashed with some hardcore violence of Splatterhouse.
Story:
You can pick and play as 4 different characters: Sergei, Natasha, Ivan or Boris. Set in an alternate timeline Russia, where the city is run by the mafia, while making money in street fights, you end being captured and you awake a few months later in an underground Russian lab. There you were the test subject for a drug named Nekro that gives you immense strength and heals your injuries. When you escape that begins your journey for revenge.
The story of Mother Russia Bleeds is insanely edgy to the point where most of the writing comes off as way too over the top. It matches the violent tone of the game perfectly, but it also ruins the story, because of how some of the dialogue is. It's not all bad, but it feels like most characters talk like maniacs and it ends up being really funny.
Graphics:
Visually Mother Russia Bleeds is absolutely stunning. Imagine the brutality of Hotline Miami translated into a 2D Beat Em Up and you have this game. The environments you go through are detailed and are honestly are pretty stunning at times. The same goes for character models, all of them having varied body types and shapes and honestly even enemies are slightly varied from level to level.
Audio:
The music is decent and there's plenty of great tracks that fit the rampage of violence you go on each level of the game. Not every track is a winner, but most of them are. The sound effects are in my opinion are rather weak. In a beat em up I really like when I can hear my punches do some damage, have some weight to them, but sadly most of the time it sounds like you're beating into pillows instead of humans.
Not to mention how certain weapons you pick up don't have the impact you expect them to have like a metal baseball bat being smacked across the face of a goon.
Gameplay:
Mother Russia Bleeds is a pretty basic side scrolling beat em up, go right and beat the shit out of goons that keep spawning. The combat works really well and it's fun to mash people into a pulp, especially considering the violence of the game. You can totally destroy your enemies with a bunch of weaponry and sometimes even use your environments to finish them off like throwing them into a harvester.
The drug Nekro acts as a way to heal yourself or go into a rage mode which will make you do more damage. Every so often when you kill someone their corpse will start convulsing and it will allow you to extract Nekro. Every so often you will fight a boss and they are often the worst parts of the game. These are usually the big difficulty spikes of the game, especially the final boss, who to properly beat you can't use any Nekro whatsoever.
The hit detection works fine for the most part, there were only a few moments where my punches didn't land when they were head on the enemy, but overall I felt really satisfied with the combat. However like I said before sometimes the game likes to really increase the difficult and by the end of some levels your thumbs will be begging for a break.
Verdict:
Mother Russia Bleeds is a ton of fun. It's edgy, it's violent, but it's also really stylish. It's a great beat em up if you ever wanted something similar to the classics like Streets of Rage and Final Fight. While it's not the best beat em up on the market, it's definitely good enough to buy.
Final Rating:
7.5/10
Pros:
+ Amazing sprite work
+ Fun gameplay
+ Great soundtrack
Cons:
- Story and writing are insanely edgy
- Difficulty spikes are not fun
- Nekro isn't a fully realized mechanic
