This game is a bite-sized experience (~40 minutes). Perfect for your coffee break!
In tonight’s episode of Midnight Scenes, we follow Oliver and Tina, two siblings facing some unusual situations in their quest to find their nanny, who disappeared in the middle of the night. Turn off the lights and enter the mysterious world of Midnight Scenes: The Nanny.
This is the third in a series of short horror tales with adventure elements by Octavi Navarro, creator of the critically acclaimed games The Supper and The Librarian, and artist on games like Thimbleweed Park and Photographs.
- Enjoy this exciting and intense tale through the eyes of Oliver, an eight-year-old kid.
- Story-driven point-and-click horror experience.
- Explore, interact with your surroundings… and be very afraid!
- Colorful pixel art based on ’80s aesthetics, inspired by horror and mystery classics like The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits.
- Eerie soundtrack.
- Atmospheric sound effects.

My total playtime is 66 minutes and I got 6 trophies, so, that's kinda creepy.
This is the third installment of Octavi Navarro's Midnight Scenes and is also the first departure from black & white into a kind of technicolor palette.
These get a little longer and more developed as the series continues and although you still have to work your imagination to get past the campiness/corniness, i think they've been fun little Halloween aperitifs.
My biggest criticism is still that I think the pricing structure and/or all the episodes should be sold as one compilation. Even on 25% sale I don't feel like I'm getting an equal amount of substance.
It's nice to see the developer continue with this idea though and I imagine they will only improve with more time and experience. I'm curious to see where the last two episodes go.
Still 3/5 but getting better

A short but spooky point-n-click. I appreciate the retro style and animations.

Went into this completely blind and my lord am I happy I did. This game is absolutely phenomenal. Did not expect the happenings in this game at all!

Holy cow that was great! Yeah, the pixel artwork doesn't always deliver on the shudder factor, and the music is adequate at best, but the gameplay is straight-forward and to the point (as a point-and-click horror game should be!), and while a little more background story would elevate it from "great" to "bloody excellent!", there are enough eerie and downright gruesome narrative exclamation points (and that ending, gawdamn!) to more than deliver the goods. Don't expect some sprawling, convoluted epic, this is just down and dirty, simple (to it's benefit!) P and C horror goodness.
Totally recommended!

If I were to tell someone where to start with the Midnight Scenes games I think it would be with The Nanny. It’s still short and simple like the prior entries but it’s probably the first game in the series where the dialog starts to really become a strength. This developer has never had an issue with building an unsettling atmosphere, but there is more depth to the characters and it makes every hair raising moment more impactful. If are looking for something scary to play this Halloween season, the Midnight Scenes games come highly recommended from me.

10/10, my favorite of the collection. Interesting twists and uses of the perspective/style, creepy atmosphere from start to finish... Great short horror movie.

Nice little horror point-and-click game in pixel style, gameplay is less than an hour long. It's creepy but immersive, I was playing at midnight, and when that big eye at the beginning says, “Turn off the lights and enjoy the chilling tale,” I followed its advice yet later had to put the lights back on.
The only thing I’m not too fond of is the game ends with murder cases unsolved and questions unanswered. Maybe it’s intentional, leaving room for imagination. The main theme of the game revolves around doppelgängers. Looking back, almost all the characters are connected to this theme - Starts with two identical toys, then the girl and the neighbor lady both appear to be clones. There’s even a possibility the boy we control isn’t the original, considering we lose track of him for a while early in the forest.
However, what happened to the babysitter? It seems like her walking out of the forest at night triggered all those deaths. Did she see something that made her decide to leave the house? Or, was it her doppelgänger that the player saw through the window? Also, who was it on the big stone? It seems like it’s the nanny, who once took care of the children and her evil soul decided to take them away, with the stone painting inscribed with all 3 of them at the end, but there's not much background about her given. Also, what happened to the nanny? Is the neighbor lady being murdered or is this a homicide, possibly driven by pressure from her recently deceased husband and her sick son, whom she has to raise alone? There are so many questions.
That said, this game is not all pure horror, you’ll find moments of humor like when you open dad’s wardrobe, and heartwarming moments when the boy speaks kind words to the babysitter. I look forward to other games in the franchise.
I recommend this game.
