Megaton Rainfall
"Megaton Rainfall' is a first-person superhero game. A global alien invasion is taking place and you must face it – alone. Chase massive destruction devices at supersonic speeds around an Earth that's as large as the real thing and populated with semi-procedurally generated cities. Then finish off the alien devices with your lethal energy blasts. Just be careful to avoid human casualties! You are so powerful, you'll leave a trail of collapsed buildings if you miss your targets! Feel unprecedented freedom of movement as you fly through buildings, break the sound barrier, and accelerate to extraordinary speeds. Then rise above the atmosphere, circumnavigate the Earth in seconds, and get ready for your next battle. 'Megaton Rainfall' is the ultimate superhero experience!"

Not what I was expecting, but still a fun game. There's probably nothing quite like it.
I think it's hilarious that you can explore the entire universe, and the game treats that like an afterthought.

Superhero simulator (best enjoyed in VR) to feel like Captain Marvel or Superman.
Overall ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ - 6/10
Music ★★★★★★★★★☆ - 9/10
Graphics ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ - 6/10
Gameplay ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆ - 5/10
Story ★★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆ - 4/10
Difficulty ★★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆ (doing all missions on A rating or with no victims is hard though)
I played this game on my Valve Index mainly, but this game can be played normally too. But if you have VR, use it.
The story is simple and quickly told: you get created by a super entity to destroy an alien race that attacks earth. Although you cannot die by normal means, the difficulty of this game comes with the need to prevent human victims while destroying the aliens. You are humankind's strongest weapon, or biggest doom if you don't aim carefully in the process. This is where the fun begins.
What I did like?
The whole seemingless sandbox world/universe you can travel through later on. The direct switches between city, earth, earth orbit, solar system, milky way, galaxies, universe is very well done. Although only 2 or 3 songs do exist, they are pretty well fitting in to the epos. I do also love that all alien type of enemies have special ways or weakspots to deal with. Most of them you have to find out by yourself. There are even bosses as big as cities or moons. Also the modding support is a good thing.
What did I not like?
Unfortunetally, the devs made an interesting sandbox, but they do not utilize it too well. As an easter egg, you can destroy earth (though only in non-VR mode, in VR mode the dialogue for destroying earth will trigger, but not the animation) you cannot destroy any other planet or moon. You can also not find the home planet of the other alien race to destroy their cities (though they get extinguished later on). While I totally understand that loosing too much humans during missions will reset the mission, why not let the player have some fun destroying stuff in between? There is a mod which lets you do it though (BeTheVillain mod), but destroying whole cities will cause the engine to totally bug out. The devs didn't even took into mind that the sandbox will keep on working, sadly.
The controls with the Index controller are a little weird with the gesture control (which I still recommend). While dash, time freeze, gigablast and movements work just fine as soon as you got the hang if it, the heat ray triggers whenever it wants to but not when you want it to. Which is bad because it is the second most effective superpower to kill bigger stuff with a medium cooldown timer.
Also there are too less missions, some enemies will only appear in one mission, and then never again. There are no random encounters or special sidemissions except the exploration type one which is a little bit plain. Also, besides of one boss, there will be no fights in space or earth orbit. Why not? You had the engine to do it, it would have been a nice change.
The graphics itself is functional to not break the game by causing lags, that is fine but still could have done better.
Summary:
The studio took a lot of effort in creating the seemingless sandbox and universe, but they didn't filled it properly. The devs didn't gave the player enough freedom to do everything in that universe, although the setting would easily allowed that. But I did enjoyed the game neithertheless. The atmosphere, the music, the epos, the immersion in VR were just awesome. How good this game could have been if they added a little bit more love and life into the project and world? We probably will never know. I barely give this game a thumb up, but it was a close call. So if you want a short superhero experience, or own a VR headset, get the game on a sale.
