Max: The Curse of Brotherhood is a cinematic adventure game filled with action-packed platforming and creative puzzle-solving. Armed with only a Magic Marker, Max must confront evil at every turn in a hostile and fantastical world in order to save his kid brother, Felix. Fortunately, the Magic Marker has the power to bend the elements and create magic objects that can help Max on his quest.

I played the game on the Steam Deck, and as a verified game, I was disappointed to find that the cutscenes between levels only worked at the beginning and end. Although I recommend the game, I suggest not using a controller since the pen for drawing things is too slow, and its speed can't be adjusted in-game. Therefore, it's better to play with a mouse and keyboard. Nevertheless, it was a fun game, and that is what matters the most.

A physics based puzzle platformer with strong presentation. Simple but charming story and setting, good voice acting and quality animations both ingame and in the Pixar short like cutscenes. Not much music but great ambience, setting the tone depending on the setpiece from playful and curious to sinister and scary. Reminds me of PS1 Heart of Darkness a bit but not nearly as cruel with the deaths and cartoon violence.
Your only offensive/defensive tool is your magic marker (mouse pointer) which you can manipulate your environment with to overcome platforming challenges and enemies alike. Starts a bit slow but you gain new abilities at a decent pace and the game mixes think fast action with slower puzzles to keep interest even early on. The environments are bog-standard but chock-full of memorable setpieces and some but not too much "got you" moments where the game trolls you with a surprise event.
Not an especially difficult game with generous checkpointing and the puzzles are tightly designed, have a strict solution with fixed points you can interact with in the environment, it's not a physics sandbox. However, the game does a good job of introducing new ideas with old mechanics and solving puzzles gives a satisfying feeling. It's a shame there are only a few direct interaction between your abilities though.

This is a solid game... I played the original (which is not necessary to fully enjoy the sequel), and "Curse of Brotherhood" is a considerable improvement. The better graphics was to be expected - but the developers also changed up the mechanics a bit - for the better. Most significantly, the player no longer needs to ration and recover ink - which was rather annoying in the first game. I also appreciate that the checkpoints are rather frequent, so getting killed doesn't ever require more than 15-20 seconds of replay. The developers and designers knew what they were doing, and it shows. I played this game through for the first time in about five hours. That may seem a little short, but this isn't a $50-60 game, and I can honestly say I enjoyed those five hours. Also of note, I played the game entirely with a keyboard and mouse with no problems.
