Now back home in New Bordeaux, Lincoln is set on escaping a criminal past. But when his surrogate family, the black mob, is betrayed and wiped out by the Italian Mafia, Lincoln builds a new family on the ashes of the old and blazes a path of military-grade revenge through those responsible. Intense gun fights, visceral hand-to-hand combat, white knuckle driving and street smarts will all be needed

After the first two Mafia games I was interested to get into the third game, even though I knew it's not really critically acclaimed, but I wanted to experience it firsthand and have my take on it.
I want to say that the atmosphere of the game, the authenticity, the soundtrack and the overall way of telling the story is really well done. Some of the characters and their development is also interesting to follow, and I can't stress this enough but these are indeed done right and these are the strongest points of Mafia 3 by a mile. The idea of the progression system is also decent in the game, even though it doesn't start out as good, but after the first sitdown it starts to shine. There are some interesting aspects of the progression too, like making sure your underbosses stay with you and how to take over territories. Some people say that this is not really a Mafia game, because we are not really part of the Mafia, however this is exactly why I like this part of the game, because we are seeing the Mafia from a different perspective. We still learn more about the Italian family but from a different perspective, which I think it’s really cool. Then the playtime of Mafia 3 with the DLCs is quite massive, so that part won't be a problem
However this game can’t be enjoyed wholeheartedly, because in my opinion most core gameplay elements have some kind of issues, some of these are just goofy and funny to look at, but a few of these things plagues the whole game and just makes the whole game not so fun. Just to list some of some of these:
Progression can bug out and either you can’t continue a mission line or a script doesn’t load in and you get softlocked. Luckily most of the time you can reload a checkpoint and that fixes and you should be good to go, although sometimes the checkpoint is from much further back of the game, in extreme cases the game can be stuck in an infinite loop of loading screens which in most cases can’t be fixed.
NPCs' behaviour is just “simple”, they don’t feel like human beings in the world at all and it is conspicuous enough to notice.
Driving feels barebone, even though you are using a realistic handling model. Still feels like some kind of GTA clone, nothing in here is similar to Mafia 1 or 2.
Physics in this game is quite inconsistent, especially when you are driving. Crashing into cars or objects can have any kind of results.
Audio mixing is not good at some places, for example when you drive and get a puncture you will hear it too loudly on that side of your headphone where you got the puncture and it gets really annoying some of these.
Ragdoll physics and animations can do any kind of goofy thing, prepare to see a whole lot of it.
Graphics in my opinion is not that great for its time, it’s also unoptimized and messy in a few parts.
There is not much variety in the missions, for some people the progression and the missions could feel boring.
The game gets quite easy even on the highest difficulty when you realize the easier solutions in the gun fights, which is stealth and suppressed weapons in most cases. In the late game this gets less effective, although definitely still usable, but after that time you would know what to expect from the game already.
I also want to talk about the DLCs, because in the Definitive Edition the player gets decals, vehicles and weapons additionally which is not a big of a deal overall, but there are 3 additional stories to follow which made me interested.
Faster, Baby!
I highly recommend playing this DLC after the first sit down. In this one, you have to take on a corrupt sheriff and its department in a small town, outside of New Bordeaux with the help of Roxy Laveau, the Voice's daughter.
The DLC offers a new smaller area to uncover with a few more missions, 2 new vehicles, 1 new weapon and 1 asset which can be upgraded, and it generates money.
The story itself is alright, I liked the atmosphere of the DLC. The bonuses are also very good to get, especially if you are still in the middle of your main story.
My only complaint with the DLC, that is short. You can play through the missions in 1 and half hour, I would have played a few more hours in this environment.
It’s a small DLC which can be only useful if you still play the main story, but I still liked this one and recommend checking it out.
Sign of the Times
I recommend this one to play when you feel bored taking over New Bordeaux in the middle of the game. In this DLC you investigate ritualistic murders and a cult in the city and tries to help a woman named Anna from the cult.
The DLC offers to discover a few key locations in New Bordeaux, some story missions and additional optional mission lines, 2 new vehicles and 2 new weapons.
The atmosphere of the story missions starts out really interesting, the difficulty here is challenging at some points. I liked the idea of the optional mission line, it ends the DLC right, although feels out of place at the same time.
The DLC story mission types are a bit boring to me, most of them are built up the same way, which is investigating different areas. The DLC story at the end starts to get a bit more hectic, and if you don’t read notes and pay attention to some details in the areas, you are gonna get lost. The optional mission line is a nice ending to it, but it doesn’t have any point to do for the player in the game, other than wasting in-game money.
The story of the DLC takes 2 and half hours to complete and it could be interesting to some, especially if you are also interested in the optional mission line which needs 187k $ to complete, but for me it was not that good enough. If you are really interested about the story of the DLC, give it a go but other than that you can skip this one.
Stones Unturned
I recommend this one to play when you only have one or two territories to take, when you are close to the end of the game. In this one you help Donovan to deal with a rival who would try to endanger the free world.
The DLC has a separate island to do these story missions which contains six of them and an additional optional mission line. You also get 2 cars and 4 different weapons.
The story is not bad, it has its clichés but it is enjoyable, especially because it only takes an hour to play through, which is just enough for this kind of story. Some of the weapons and cars you get from this DLC are quite good too.
On the other side it could be tricky to play through because of the difficulty in the second part. Also, the motivation for the characters feels a bit hard to understand for me. The optional mission line is an interesting idea, but only good for kill some time in my opinion, doesn't give anything useful for beating it.
This DLC’s story mission feels refreshing in between the story, it also has some good weapons and cars to get after compilation, so I would recommend to play that part only, the optional mission is not that interesting.
Mafia 3 is a tricky game to review, because if you like the story, character story developments and you don’t mind the repetitive, unoptimized and buggy gameplay, you can still enjoy this game very much, even have some laughs about it, but otherwise this game either feels mid or straightforwardly bad. For me, I didn’t like this game in my first 15 hours however after that I started to get used to the bugs and knew what to expect most of the time and just focused on the decent side of the progression system, caught on the revenge story and overall I think it’s not that bad of a game and could recommend it to others. Give it a go if you want to get into a Far Cry like campaign which is about taking revenge or if you wanna have a laugh about the game’s bugs, otherwise just skip it. Definietly not recommend to get this one for 30€, but buying it for 10 - 13 is an okay deal

if your game crashes before it can even get into the menu, go to the file where Mafia 3 is installed, look for Mafia 3 Definitive edition (not the launcher) right click and click on properties go to Compatibility and look for Compatibility mode try all of them but Run this program in compatibility mode for windows 7 worked for me, and now the other issues the same issue they had for mafia 1 is black screening on launch if you have this issue you need to launch the launcher and then change it to window mode, JUST WHEN IT launches you can put in back into full screen mode when you get back into the game you can also try check Disable full screen optimisations i think that will fix most issues of it launching up, ill recommended this or not when i finish the game i just want people to know what to do, so they can play the game and judge it on the game not the bad port for the launch up of the game (also feel free to share over bugs and fixes in the comments :) have a wonderful day).

I mostly wanted to post this to inform on how to get Mafia III into a more playable state. This game is infamous for the technical state it was left in, with numerous minor and major bugs plus crashes galore no matter how good your hardware is. It's also pretty notorious amongst achievement hunters due to counter-based achievements failing to retain your progress once you close the game, resulting in a frustrating to downright impossible 100% experience unless you are incredibly lucky. So after spending some time researching and implementing fixes, this is what I would recommend if you plan on trying this game out:
- Follow the below guide to revert your game back to Patch 1.09, including preventing the game's access to the internet. This should fix every counter based achievement and reduce the frequency that you'll have a crash.
- Play the game in windowed mode for additional stability.
- There will be a mission where you have to enter a boxing ring and be pat down by security before you can enter. Lock the game to 30fps briefly to ensure this interaction plays out properly, else the game will soft lock. You can revert back to a higher frame rate after this.
This by no means makes the game perfect. There will be visual glitches, dialogue which does not play, and a myriad of other random issues. But after playing the game through once on the latest patch and the remainder of my 100% journey on Patch 1.09, I found the earlier version of Mafia III to be far more playable, and allowed me to achieve everything the game had to offer in two playthroughs.
Whether this will make you enjoy the game itself is a different story. It is a major departure from both previous Mafia games due to its open world structure and completely different approach to tackling the Mafia subject matter. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the world, helped by the visual variety of New Bordeaux, and the excellent soundtrack, boasting many popular and lesser-known tracks of the 60s era. I also loved its storytelling and characters, with fantastic performances across the board and a unique documentary-style framing to the whole ordeal that makes every cutscene a super interesting watch. And while its activities may be repetitive, and its open world activities too safe for their own good, the great weapon sounds and feedback, alongside the brutal melee kills, was more than enough to keep me coming back to experience its combat.
I genuinely believe that with a bit of trimming of the open world fat, and abundant time spent to fix the game up to a polished state, Mafia III would be revered to the point of moving out of the mixed Steam and critical reception it will likely be forever left in. So if you've played the other two Mafia games and are curious whether's it's worth trying the third, I'd recommend enacting the above fixes and give it a go; I was pleasantly surprised by how much I ended up liking this, and maybe you will feel the same as well.

I got to buy myself a copy of this game with all the stigma of it not being a "good" mafia game. First of all, I must agree it is not really a Mafia game. Whilst playing you realise quite quickly that in reality is about putting end to the whole mafia mentality and getting revenge for those who were lost. Those new allies who were found in the process stood by your side. It was never meant for you to be a part of Mafia, but to build something a little better in the wicked world of ours.
Story was great I really enjoyed it. Characters had good screen time ( mainly the allies ). Sadly without much development excluding, Clay, Donovan, Father James, Vito and Sal. Others were good too but for me did not have that much impact on the whole world/story of the game.
DLCs were great I enjoyed them all. The first one with witch hunt was amazing story, that gave more time for Lincoln to develop, The second one with Roxy, was more fun but had a great background and I really enjoyed working with The Voice ( voice acted by a my guy Lee from TWD The Game Series :3 ). The third one with donovan was quick but action packed shit show, that was enjoyable too.
Gameplay was most of the time very good. Some game mechanics polished over time, but there is still some bugs that can influence your opinion on the game. Its the nitt picky stuff, I enjoyed the game as is.
And to those the game was boring and too long of the same I strongly disagree. Mainly beating small racket bosses and then killing Sals lieutenants. Yeah it had its moments, but I still enjoyed killing every single KKK member, getting rid of the greedy fucks that were ruining the lives of many people. A literal ONE MAN ARMY!!
I can say I did all the SQ too, and it made the game whole. Just one thing is missing from this game. FAST TRAVEL MAN. The driving mainly for SQ was sometimes BORING :D.
8.5/10. Good job Hangar 13. Love from Slovakia.

8 years ago I bought this game, yet I couldn't really play it then because of all the bugs and performance problems, most of which have been fixed by now. It's been sitting in my library ever since and last month I finally decided to give this game a fair chance.
As a big fan of the Mafia series I have to admit that the third installment is kind of a letdown in that regard. The exciting, more linear missions of Mafia 1 and 2 have (mostly) been replaced with pretty much the same gameplay loop of inflitrating various rackets and bringing them down in order to kill Sal Marcano and his Underbosses. It sadly doesn't add any depth to the story, which is a shame because the story and the characters are all very well written and fun.
That being said, the game really shines gameplay-mechanics wise. The driving, the smooth gunplay, the awesome acting and the very well done setting of 1968's New Orleans with the cars, music and political tensions of the time make this game rather unique. Mafia 3 kind of reminds me a lot of early / mid 2000's 'GTA clones' á la Driver Parallel Lines. The map is well designed and feels fun to explore but there is no reason whatsoever to explore it, as there's just not a lot to do: no clothes to buy, no bars to visit. Only a handful of cars you can customize and a couple of street races to partake in. The added DLC offer some much needed variety but are only about 1 - 2 hours long each, which is a shame because the newly added places and features can never be used / visited again (except for Sinclair Parish).
Give this game a shot when it's on sale, but don't expect any wonders. It truely deserves the mixed reviews it got and has it's issues, but it's still lots of fun!

I enjoyed this game back in the days after its release and Im enjoying it even more now. Here is why.
Previous two Mafia games were heavily story driven since you had one story mission after another. This one is closer to the classic "GTA" open world formula with many side missions to do (if you want).
I don't mind when games get repetitive if the gameplay itself is fun. And boy Im having fun with this one! The action, animations and ragdoll physics are so much fun that after finishing one firefight I can't wait to start another. One of my most favourite things are melee finishers. Simply get close to your enemy and press Q key and Lincoln will perform a finisher depending on which weapon you are carrying. It was the exact same way (even the Q key) in 2005 Punisher game. You can also try stealthy approach or later in the game you can just call in a hitman squad and enjoy the firefight from afar. The choice is yours.
Story is actually very good and especially the acting. You just don't see a cutscene after every finished mission like in the previous games. Story narrative reminds me mostly of Guy Ritchie's gangster movies with little bit of Martin Scorsese mixed into it but at some points you also feel like being in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood since it takes place in the same time period and even contains
some songs that were later used in that movie.
Which brings me to the soundtrack - it's simply amazing. What can I say, one classic song after another. You will not want to turn off the radio station!
What about our main character Lincoln Clay? Im so happy that once more we can have some "walking tank" type of character. He is basically like Jack Reacher mixed with the Punisher.
For a person like me who grew up on Arnold Schwarzenegger movies it's just another plus. And like a mentioned before the fighting and everything around it is just so much fun.
Some people say that the open world is empty and there's not much to do except the side missions. To be fair it wasn't much different in previous games. Map basically served
only to get from point A to point B to complete the story mission. In this you actually have things to do, which gives you more money, make things easier for you (like if you eliminate enemy enforcers they won't be
bothering you later in the game) and your decisions even have influence on the story since there are several different ways how you can progress. Like in all previous instalments here as well was environment created with great attention to detail that makes you want to just walk around and breathe in the atmosphere. What makes the environment feel alive are the npcs. They have many different dialogs and even reacting on what's happening in the story as the game progress.
At one point after Sammy's bar gets repaired you can stop by to have a drink there which is a nice touch since I always liked to be able to immerse myself into the game doing all those little
unnecessary things like being able to eat or drink and stuff like that. There is also one nice little detail some of us appreciate and which is usually overlooked in most pc games and that's the walking button. You can just switch between walk and run.
In case of technical issues - Im only having one. Which is that sometimes when you start the game it for some reason crashes back to desktop after the opening logos. Little annoying but all I have to do is just
to start the game again and all over sudden it works just fine. I heard that switching the compatibility to Windows 7 solves the problem but I didn't bother to test it. Other than that game works just fine on max details. Not a single crash during the gameplay. My pc is almost as old as the game, which is Ryzen 5 1600, 16gb ram and GeForce 1060 (and Windows 10). Game can look gorgeous at times but I suggest
turning off the depth of field and motion blur to make it look less blurry.
So If you like this genre I really think that you should give it a try. Im not afraid to say that this game is very underrated. It is on 75% sale very often and for that price you really can't go wrong.
You can pray on the way up! - Lincoln Clay
Update: I completely forgot that later in the game you can grow weed and even make your own strains! 10/10!
