This is the First release from LBGames, a dev me and a friend found while googlin' around for some fun games to play, and so I'm playing all of their games to show them support, but also giving my honest feedback on them all.
Lupa is a polygonal stylized 3rd-person walking sim that recounts a simple story about a Wolf looking for her cubs/pack. Its the second game I've played from LBG but it's also the one I expected the most out of. And it, mostly, delivered. There isn't nearly as much as I can go into for this game, but I will still cover the goods and the bads.
The Good. This game is very pretty and suffer little or no performance or bug problems, which is already a massive step up from their other title I played, Forest Keeper. I really like the style taken and I do think the movement feels oddly unique and good, the way the camera is instead centered around the head of the wolf you play makes it feel just a touch more immersive which is very intriguing, but may put a few people off. I like the story, it doesn't try to do much, but does have some good themes and while I do think it could be a touch better, I do think on the whole it works for a first release.
The Not as Good. The gameplay is incredibly simple, something that is expected from a walking sim, but I would argue that here it feels just as bare-bones as the -phile series (pluviophile and so forth) but doesnt make up for it as much as those games do. I did have an issue getting this game to not be automatically blown up on my vertical monitors, which was a little weird, but I suppose not an outrageous problem. I do think the game, like Forest Keeper, is a little high in price, it would be a great 7.99 title instead of the 10.99 it is being asked for, but that's not as bad of a problem for this game as it was for Forest Keeper. The biggest issue is that the ending leaves a little to be desired, and I would definitely look forward to seeing a sequel to wrap up those ideas and story beats that were left a little hanging.
Overall, Lupa is quite a solid first game for LBG and I do think it works with them a lot more than Forest Keeper does, which feels like a rough stitch-together in comparison to the clear time and effort put into Lupa's performance, ambience, and more. Overall a solid game though, would recommend.
