About the Game
Light Fairytale is a turn-based Japanese-style RPG series set in a dying underground world ruled by an evil empire.
The goal of this project is to bring back the immersion and emotion of 90’s era JRPGs on current platforms with the expected evolution in both design and technique.
Episode 1 is the start of the adventure. Play as Haru and his childhood friend Kuroko as they fight a dark empire in the underground ‘Lower City’.
Characters
Haru
A bit lazy and a lot naive, Haru nonetheless is a kind soul and knows how to handle himself if push comes to shove.
Kuroko
She might be short and cute (sometimes), but don’t let that fool you: Kuroko is exceedingly capable in battle and always willing to step up. She’s also fond of technology – maaaybe a bit too much so.
Notes about the Light Fairytale series
Each episode is a standalone game, approximately 2 to 3 hours long for a first play-through, double it for a full completion of all the achievements and secrets.

Played through the "normal" story, probably will come back and play the alternate one. It's not that it's the best game ever, it's actually kind of a super-clunky DS game. It doesn't do -anything- interesting mechanically, there's no meaningful progression or exploration. It does have character, and a lot of love was clearly poured into it. It's just ... I don't know, charming I guess. I fired it up just to take a look, and wound up finishing the first play through in one sitting (which is VERY rare for me) almost out of nostalgia. Nostalgia, mind you, that I didn't have for this game as I'd never played it. I won't try to sell you on it, but if you like an easy to pickup turn-based RPG? You can do much, much, much worse than this game.
UPDATE: I finally played the alternate story and it fills in gaps quite nicely that were left in the first play through. It's not frigging Nier or anything, but it's very, very good. It lacks depth in a lot of ways, but it's also just an overall chill experience. I'll 100% be playing part 2 (and 3 in coming soon as of this review).
