Lesson Learned, developed by MadGamesmith and published by Gaming Factory, is a tower defense game that stands out for its whimsical art style and unique setting. Released on May 29, 2024, the game offers both solo and local co-op modes, allowing players to embark on a bizarre journey through history. The narrative follows Frank, a schoolboy who, after a peculiar event, finds himself navigating a dreamlike world filled with historical figures and fantastical creatures.
The gameplay mechanics revolve around gathering resources such as wood and stone to construct and upgrade defensive towers. Players can also recruit minions to assist in defending their base. The game features six distinct historical periods, each introducing unique enemies and challenges. From battling cavemen to fending off medieval knights, the variety in adversaries keeps the gameplay engaging and dynamic. The art style is reminiscent of classic cartoons, with exaggerated character designs and vibrant colors that appeal to a broad audience.
One of the game's notable features is its emphasis on resource management and strategic planning. Players must decide where to allocate their resources, balancing between building new towers and upgrading existing ones. The inclusion of minions adds an additional layer of strategy, as players can assign them specific tasks to optimize defense efforts. The game's pacing is well-balanced, with increasing difficulty levels that challenge players to adapt and refine their strategies.
However, Lesson Learned is not without its drawbacks. Some players have noted that while the game offers a unique twist on the tower defense genre, it lacks depth in certain areas. The progression system, for instance, could benefit from more complexity to keep players invested over longer periods. Additionally, the game's reliance on local co-op may limit its appeal to those without access to multiple controllers or local multiplayer setups.
In terms of performance, the game runs smoothly on a variety of systems, with minimal technical issues reported. The controls are intuitive, and the user interface is straightforward, making it accessible to both newcomers and seasoned players of the genre. The sound design complements the whimsical tone of the game, with cheerful music and sound effects that enhance the overall experience.
Overall, Lesson Learned offers a fresh take on the tower defense genre with its charming art style and inventive gameplay mechanics. While it may not offer the depth of some other titles in the genre, its unique setting and engaging gameplay make it a worthwhile experience for fans of tower defense games seeking something different. The game's blend of strategy, humor, and historical fantasy provides an entertaining adventure that is both challenging and enjoyable.

Very nice Tower Defense game from Polish studio. Game is similiar to Pixel Junk Monster (in terms of mechanics). There is COOP mode which makes it even greater!
