Japanese high school dating meets Oceans Eleven style heist. The greatest heist of all is the heart, or something.
Play the game. It's real good.

Kokurase - Episode 1 is a short quirky roleplaying game developed by galanti and published by fan favorite Degica. What I personally like about this game is it takes the RPGmaker system we've come to know (and depending on who you are love/hate) and gives it a new spin. In order to complete this game, you'll have to consistently switch between 8+ different characters, all at different locations doing different tasks, to complete one unified goal. It's a genuinely interesting system that helps bring life to a sometimes stagnant game engine. The artwork is absolutely gorgeous, it's sort of simple to call it "anime" because its incredibly stylized and has a nice edge to it.
It also has components similar to other logic collecting games like Phoenix Wright, where you have to recall statements/ideas that you heard previously into new conversation. This makes every moment of dialogue more meaningful, and gives you more reason to pay attention. Not that you'll have any trouble keeping focus, the writing is charming and quick witted.
Overall this is a really loveable game with interesting game design mechanics, and I'm excited to buy the DLC when it becomes available.
But for now, download this game, its free!
Added: Episode 2 is out!

Kokurase are a ragtag group of high schoolers whose secret hideout is behind the wall on the top floor of the old school building. They solve problems and make wishes come true (within reason), and whatever you desire, they can make it happen one way or another ー for a price.
Episode 1 follows Sakura, a terribly shy girl who only wants one thing ー her senpai to notice her! Thing is, she can't go near him without fainting. That's where Kokurase come in.
Okay, the plot might sound typical, but it isn't ー it's full of humor and interesting characters. I know this word has been wrung out to the death, but the characters are genuinely quirky and seeing them interact was fun (lookin' at you Meg and Kanta).
Also, the music is just great. I found myself nodding along to some of the tracks. And while playing, I noticed every playable character in the game has their own respective track. I thought that was pretty cool.
So yeah, Kokurase is a nice little game and I really enjoyed episode 1. It's free and only 2 and a half hours, so why not?

Kokurase is my favorite RPG Adventure game You are teens at a school, and your mission is to help a client confess to their crush. Switch between characters to do different assignments. Funny and interesting scenaries. Conclusion: Very Good Character Development and descriptions of each characters. I like how they told good tutorials and important save points. The game is like a mission in teenager form, where there is enemy with motive. You have your own motive and have to complete the mission for the rewards.

Wow, really good story and mechanics. Especially for a free game. Cool!
So if you like the sort of text-based, go talk to people, kind of game, this game does a good job at it. The biggest twist is the switch mechanic. It has you constantly switching between the main players of the story to give a narrative that doesn't feel too disjointed and is fun to watch.
Two notes of advice:
Play other characters, even if they don't have plot at the moment. Sometimes you can get some interesting dialog from the characters that way. (Don't obsess over this though, it's just a few things here and there)
(hopefully not spoilery) When the game offers you a chance to get an "alternate ending" for getting something perfect, just do it. If you fail, restart. I did both ways, and the alternate ending is a bonus scene, not something different. Not really fun to do the whole section twice.

The Kokurase gang, also known as Cupid’s Helpers, sets out to help shy freshman Sakura win over Yoshimitsu, a popular senior surrounded by admirers. You’ll navigate through tasks switching between distinct personalities like Genji the leader, Riho the rookie, enigmatic Meg, and Kanta the mystical investigator, all while trying to unite these two through a series of connected missions.
Being the mastermind behind a group of high schoolers solving love problems feels like participating in a teenage psychodrama. Whether it's handling awkward confessions or comedic situations, each character has their own talent, making the experience engaging and lively. The gameplay focuses on character interaction and mission-based progression, ensuring a captivating plot despite the game’s brevity.
The polished structure, clear tutorials, and well-placed save points contribute to a smooth experience. Although the RPG Maker visuals might not appeal to everyone, and the high price of additional content may seem steep for the visual style, the charm of the game easily draws you in. It’s hard to resist getting completely engrossed, no Kokurase scheme required!

It's certainly a fun way to pass time! Some of the directions/objectives aren't as clear as I wanted(in at least 2 or 3 scenarios I had to look at someone else's gameplay on YT for instructions. A hint button would be helpful but I had so much fun with how outlandish the story is. Definitely would recommend giving this a go to anyone who's even remotely interested in this game!
