I had read all the mixed reviews, set sail with low expectations, and those expectations were met.
King of C+
There's plenty of strengths here. It looks and sounds great, controls are solid, narrative is concise, and there's little optional side features to challenge yourself with if you want. If you just want to cruise the seas and do some trading, this is serviceable. High points: there's no sense of urgency or ship morale to micromanage, the escort missions are fair (no scripted ambushes), and item system makes it clear which components are upgrades compared to what you have currently equipped.
Everyone is already on top of the weaknesses. Progression is grindy, gameplay is repetitive, and there's no replayability beyond knocking out achievements like a chore. A lot of the design choices seem indicative of a grander plan that was scaled back along the way. Low points: NPC ships level with you and early game is extra tedious, map exploration is gatekept by needing to find cartographers to sell you tiny pieces of the world map, navel combat is monotonous and there's no real incentive to swap ships or to alternate strategies.
At times it was genuinely a relaxing and engaging experience, but I think it's fair to say it can get frustrating (don't attempt a boss fight without range 10 cannons).
If you aren't put off by the idea that this is a much slower paced game than it looks, you might enjoy it. Obligatory "get it on sale" recommended.

Its fun for about 5-6 hours before you realise its just more of the same as you progress. For a few bucks, sure, why not. Just don't go in expecting a sweeping nautical adventure.

Not sure why King of Seas gets mixed reviews. No it’s not a top-tier game but it’s way more fun than people give it credit for. If you liked Sid Meier’s Pirates!, this is quite similar to it...
Exploring, leveling up, and finding loot is super satisfying. There’s a lot more depth than the tutorial shows... different ship classes, cannon types, skills, and even fishing and trading that actually matter.
my only complain is we cannot max out skill trees xD i learnt it the hard way xD i didnt realise that out of 3 skill trees we wont have enough points to max out 2 and i basically just got skills at random thinking oh i'll get all of em later anyways...
Yea the game has its rough edges but its not bad... I have 2 achievements left to get that are difficulty achievements... will need another playthrough for that ig..
